Bulldogs Fall to Wildcats at Greenwood Field

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville's women's soccer team fell to Davidson, 2-0, on Sunday at Greenwood Field.
"What I am most proud of today is the collective performance," head coach Clifton Bush said. "It's the first time in a number of games I felt we were putting our principles into practice.
The Bulldogs and the Wildcats traded shots through the first five minutes of the game as Bryson Lee picked up her first save of the day on a shot at the bottom center by Davidson's Gretchen Pearson. Gillian Oyos countered for the Bulldogs with a shot to the bottom left that was saved by the Davidson goalkeeper.
Davidson broke the scoreless game in the 29th minute off the foot of Cameron France on an assist by Pearson. The Bulldogs held the Wildcats there as the 1-0 score would hold after the first 45 minutes.
The Bulldog defense stepped up in a big way as Davidson's offense struggled to get clear shot attempts. In the first half, UNC Asheville held the Wildcats to only six shot attempts.
The Bulldogs held a slight advantage in shot attempts through the first 30 minutes of the second half. UNC Asheville had a trio of freshman, Barrett Eidson, Olivia Lenderman and Isabella Piso, all get shots off that fell short at the Davidson goal.
"We have a team with young talented individuals and today we saw more of them executing a cohesive vision. Work rate has to be the foundation of our play and I am very proud of players like Alice Walker, Sarah Langille, Grace Sloan and Barrett Eidson. Their work ethic will take us to the next level," Bush said.
The Wildcats increased their lead to 2-0 in the 85th minute when Michelle Manceaux found the back of the net on a shot from the right side.
UNC Asheville allowed Davidson to get off only 13 shots in the game. That is the second time this season a Division I opponent has failed to get more than 13 shot attempts off against the Bulldog defenders.
"Now the challenge is to not get lost in the moments and our team, especially the defenders, are improving at a rapid rate," Bush said.
The Bulldogs will close out their three match homestand, Wednesday, September 18, versus mountain rival Western Carolina.
