KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Playing its first top-25 team of the season, the UNC Asheville baseball team travels to Lindsey Nelson Stadium to square off with nationally-ranked Tennessee (No. 21) for a two-game series beginning on Tuesday, March 12.

About the Bulldogs

UNC Asheville travels to Knoxville with a 5-9 overall record, and it has a respectable 2-3 record in the last five games.

In the weekend road series against Georgia Southern, the Bulldogs took the Saturday contest but dropped the series to the Eagles. Danny Wilson paced the UNC Asheville offense, as he posted a team-high seven hits, and of those seven hits, two were doubles. He also plated four RBIs and touched home twice. Highlighting the senior's weekend was a five-hit contest in Saturday's victory for the Bulldogs.

Brandon Lankford also had a strong performance, as he totaled four hits in the three-game set. The junior third baseman collected a pair of home runs, which came in the same game, and finished with a team-high six RBIs in the weekend road series.

Greg Gasparro and Carmine Pagano also added to the Bulldog offense, as the duo posted four hits apiece in the last three games.

Blake Brown and Jordan Carr each had decent starts, as they combined for 13 strikeouts and only allowed two walks. UNC Asheville had three relievers that posted scoreless outings over the weekend in Jacob Edwards, Austin Fahr and Kole Harris. Fahr had two appearances of shutout ball, while Edwards twirled two frames and struck out one. Harris only collected one out en route to his third save of the season.

About Tennessee

Tennessee hosts the Bulldogs with a 15-1 record, which includes an 11-1 mark inside its home ballpark. Its only loss in Knoxville was a 10-7 decision to Fresno State on Sunday.

Tennessee's offense is led by four players, who are hitting .347 or better this year. Justin Ammons has a team-best .400 batting average, as he has appeared in all 16 games for the Vols. He has 20 hits, as five have gone for extra-bases. Alerick Soularie and Lux Lipcius are two power threats who are batting above .347 this year, as they have combined for seven home runs, two triples and five doubles. Ricky Martinez is the final Volunteer hitting over .347 (.377). Martinez leads the team in doubles with seven. He has also touched home 13 times and has 10 RBIs.

The Volunteers have four key starters in Zach Linginfelter, Sean Hunley, Garrett Stallings and Will Neeley.  Linginfelter headlines their rotation, as he has a near-perfect ERA this year (0.75). He has twirled 24 innings in four starts and has a perfect 4-0 record. Stallings has also started four games this year, and he has a team-high 27.2 innings pitched and 35 strikeouts.

There are six Volunteer relievers this year that have appeared in multiple games this year and have yet to allow an earned run. Camden Sewell is one of those, as he is the only Volunteer reliever with double digits in innings pitched. Redmond Walsh has pitched in seven of the 16 games this year for Tennessee, and he has yet to allow a run in 8.1 innings.
