Baseball Concludes Series at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – To conclude the three-game road series at Georgia Southern, the UNC Asheville baseball team fell to the Eagles, 14-0, at J.I. Clement Stadium.
BULLDOG BITES
Highlights
After a 1-2-3 inning for both teams in the first, Georgia Southern opened the scoring in the second inning with a pair of runs on two hits. Blake Evans earned both RBIs off a single.
In the bottom of the third, the Eagles added one more run, which was unearned, to take the three-run lead.
Asheville's offense started to come alive with two outs in the fourth inning, as Brandon Lankford and Danny Wilson tried to work two-out magic. However, they were left stranded.
The Eagles took advantage in the bottom of that inning with two runs on two hits.
Georgia Southern added a lone run to go up 6-0, as Noah Ledford connected with a leadoff homer in the fifth inning.
Asheville tried to start a rally in the sixth inning, as Greg Gasparro posted a leadoff single. Dominic Freeberger followed with a walk to put two runners on with no outs. However, the Eagles' starting pitcher forced three straight outs to hold on to their six-run lead.
In the seventh frame, Asheville again posted a leadoff hit, as Carmine Pagano smacked a single to center field. A batter later, Jake Madole tallied a single to put a pair of Bulldogs on base. Anthony Cuozzi came on to pinch hit, but on his walk, Pagano was tagged out for the second out of the inning. Gasparro hit into a fielder's choice to strand the two Bulldogs.
Georgia Southern's offense rattled off eight runs in the bottom of the seventh to take the 14-0 lead.
UNC Asheville ended the final two innings tallying one hit, which came off PJ Heintz's bat in the eighth.
With their win, the Eagles move to 7-7 on the year, while UNC Asheville drops to 5-9.
Six different Bulldogs tallied a hit in the series finale – Gasparro, Heintz, Lankford, Wilson, Pagano and Madole.
Austin Fahr was the only Bulldog pitcher to have a scoreless outing, as he worked 1.2 innings. He allowed no runs on one hit.
Eric Whitecavage tossed 1.1 frames and allowed two hits and struck out a team-best three Eagles.
What's Next?
The Bulldogs will conclude the five-game road swing by traveling to Knoxville, Tenn. to square off with Southeastern Conference member Tennessee. The first game is set for Tuesday, March 12 at 6 p.m., while the finale is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13 at 5 p.m., at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.
