Four Bulldogs Score in Double Figures in 25-Point Rout Over Longwood

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Behind four Bulldogs scoring in double digits, the UNC Asheville women's basketball team claimed a 25-point victory, 80-55, over Big South Conference foe Longwood on Tuesday night inside Kimmel Arena.

It was the second time this year four Bulldogs had double-digit performances. The last time that occurred was against Warren Wilson on Dec. 3.

Game Highlights

Both teams battled back-and-forth in the first 10 minutes of action. Five different Bulldogs scored in the first quarter, as Jessica Wall paced the Bulldog offense with six points. Jimeshia Lawson, who made her first career start on Tuesday, added four points in the first 10 minutes.

UNC Asheville started to pull away late in the first half, as it saw its lead get as high as nine points with 48 seconds (39-30) left. The Bulldogs entered halftime with a 41-33 advantage. Asheville totaled 24 points in the second stanza, as eight different Bulldogs scored two or more points in the 10-minute frame. Zip Scott led the Bulldogs with eight points, as she went 3-for-3 from the field (2-for-2 behind the three-point arc). As a team, UNC Asheville made three 3-pointers in the second stanza.

At the halftime break, the Bulldogs' offense was led by Scott, who had 10 points. Wall added eight points on 3-for-5 shooting, while Lawson and Ali Trani combined for nine points.

The Bulldogs outscored the Lancers by 11 in the third quarter to take a 60-41 lead at the end of the quarter. Only four Asheville players scored in the third stanza, as Tiffany Wilson and Lawson each totaled six points apiece. Wilson grabbed three boards, while Lawson corralled three rebounds.

UNC Asheville sealed the 80-55 victory over the Lancers in the fourth quarter, as the Bulldogs claimed a 20-14 advantage in the final 10 minutes. Trani poured in five points on 2-for-2 shooting, while Lawson added four points and four boards. Scott, Wall and Tamiah Lewis all contributed three points each.

Overall four Bulldogs scored in double digits with Wall leading the way with a game-high 16 points. Scott was right behind her teammate with 15 points of her own. Lawson tallied a career-high 14 points, and Trani added 10 points as well. All four of those Bulldogs converted on four or more field goals each.

Scott and Wall were red hot behind the three-point arc, as they combined for seven made three-pointers. Trani also connected on a pair of three-pointers.

Of the 12 Bulldogs that touched the court, 11 players scored two or more points.

Lawson had a game-high seven boards, which included three offensive rebounds. Nadiria Evans and Wilson each corralled five boards.

As a team, UNC Asheville shot 49.1 percent (28-for-57) from the field, including an outstanding 68.8 percent (11-for-16) behind the three-point arc. The Bulldogs were also efficient from the charity stripe, as they went 13-for-17 (76.5 percent). Lawson connected with a single-game career high six free throws.

The Bulldogs held a 14-12 advantage on the offensive glass, which allowed them to tally a 17-point advantage in second-chance points (22-5).

With its 80 points scored, UNC Asheville is undefeated this season, 8-0, when scoring 60 or more points. Also with its 49.1 percent field goal percentage, it marked the third time the Bulldogs have shot 49 percent or better this year, and they are undefeated in such games.

After holding Longwood to only 32.2 percent from the hardwood, it marked the six victory for the Bulldogs when holding their opponents to 39.9 percent or lower in a game.

With its fourth consecutive win, UNC Asheville moves to 9-9 overall and 4-3 in Big South play, while Longwood falls to 1-15 on the year and 0-6 in league games.

The Bulldogs will take the weekend off to prep for a midweek contest at Presbyterian on Tuesday, Jan. 29. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. in Clinton, S.C. and will be streamed on BSN on ESPN+.
