Baseball Concludes Regular Season at Charleston Southern

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – To conclude the regular season, the UNC Asheville baseball team travels to Charleston Southern for a three-game set beginning on Thursday, May 17, at CSU Ballpark.
About the Bulldogs
UNC Asheville enters the final series of the regular season with a 12-36 overall mark and a 7-17 record in Big South Conference play.
In the High Point series, Joe Zayatz led the UNC Asheville offense. The senior totaled a team-leading four hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. Of the four hits, three went for extra-bases, including a three-run home run in Saturday's contest.
Also in the three-game series, Joe Gruszka knocked his team-leading fourth triple of the season, and Brandon Lankford added a double.
Greg Gasparro posted a single-game career-best three hits on Sunday versus the Panthers. In that contest, the sophomore connected with two doubles and a single. He also earned a RBI and a run scored.
On the mound, Blake Brown had the best start for the Bulldogs in the High Point series. He started Friday's contest, and the sophomore twirled 4.2 innings. He allowed just one run, scattered three hits and struck out four.
Scouting the Buccaneers
Charleston Southern enters the final regular-season series with a 17-32 overall record and an 8-16 mark in league play. CSU won its most recent series on the road at Gardner-Webb, as the Bucs won the final two games of the series in Boiling Springs, N.C. In its last five games, they are 4-1 with a pair of wins over both GWU and Winthrop.
Freshman catcher Christian Maggio is the team's leading hitter, as he sports a .310 batting average in 34 starts. He has tallied 35 total hits and 15 RBIs.
Fellow catcher, Mike Sconzo, is CSU's second-best hitter, as he sports a .292 clip. He has connected with a team-leading 54 hits and eight doubles. He has also touched home 26 times and has walked 15 times.
Outfielder Derek Horton paces the Bucs in home runs, as he has six, and right behind him is Ryan Stoudemire, who has five homers. Between the two players, they have 11 homers, 10 doubles, 23 runs scored and 35 RBIs.
Charleston Southern relies heavily on its pitching staff, as it totes a 4.79 ERA. As a team, it averages 8.55 strikeouts per game to only 2.86 walks per contest. It also holds opponents to a .279 batting average.
Leading the starting rotation in Evan Nations and Tyler Weekley Nations has started 10 games and owns a 1-2 record. He has a 3.88 ERA, and he has struck out 32 batters.
