Second-Half Surge Leads UNC Asheville Past Davidson, 69-56

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Behind 41 points in the second half, the UNC Asheville women's basketball team claimed its second straight win, as it downed Davidson, 69-56, at Kimmel Arena on Wednesday.

Game Highlights
The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair until just under two minutes left. Sonora Dengokl and Jimeshia Lawson led the surge, as they combined for eight points to give Asheville the 16-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Davidson trimmed the deficit to only two points, 28-26, as it tallied six made baskets and five made free throws in the second quarter. UNC Asheville made five buckets in the stanza, as Jessica Wall and Dengokl combined for 10 points.
At the halftime break, UNC Asheville was shooting .303 percent (10-for-33) at the 15-minute break. The Bulldogs also dominated the boards (23-14), which included 10 offensive rebounds.
The Bulldogs extended their lead in the third quarter, as they outscored the Wildcats by four points (21-17). Tiffany Wilson and Wall each tallied six points, as both Bulldogs connected with two field goals. Nadiria Evans also totaled five points in the stanza, as she went 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.
UNC Asheville sealed the victory in the fourth quarter, as it tallied 20 points in the final quarter. Asheville shot .384 percent from the field, as Brooke Jordan-Brown, Evans and Wilson all scored five points. Jordan-Brown grabbed four rebounds in the quarter.
Overall, the Bulldogs shot .367 percent from the hardwood (22-for-60). They also held a seven-point advantage in bench points over Davidson (25-18).
Dengokl led the team with 18 total points. Fifteen of her points came in the first half. The senior finished the game with six made field goals and went 6-for-7 from the free-throw line.
Wilson also connected with a season-high 13 points, as she also grabbed five rebounds. She also went an impressive 4-for-6 from the field.
Wall dropped 13 points, as she went 4-for-6 behind the three-point arc. She also tallied two assists and two steals.
Evans contributed 12 points. The sophomore from Gainesville, Fla. finished the contest with two assists and two steals.
Juliet Esadah was the team's leading rebounder, as she corralled a game-high 11 boards in 16 minutes of play.
With its second straight win, UNC Asheville advances to 2-2 on the year, while Davidson drops to 2-3.

UNC Asheville will conclude its three-game home stretch on Sunday, Nov. 25. The women's basketball team will square off with Wofford at 2 p.m. inside Kimmel Arena. That contest will be part of a doubleheader with the UNC Asheville men's basketball team, as the Bulldogs host Furman at 4 p.m. Both games will be streamed on BSN on ESPN+.
