ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Freshman starting pitcher Jordan Carr tossed eight hitless innings Sunday, but Mt. St. Mary's used a UNC Asheville error and a passed ball to plate two runs in the top of the fifth inning that proved to be the difference as the visitors grabbed a 2-1 win on Sunday.
THE TURNING POINT
The Bulldogs finished with 11 hits, but left nine runners stranded in the loss. Asheville left two runners on to end three different innings, and stranded a single runner in three other innings.
NOTABLES
-Danny Wilson finished 3-for-5 in the loss, including a pair of doubles, while Kyle Carruthers tallied two hits as the only other Bulldog to finish with multiple hits. Six other Asheville players had one hit each, including Pete Guy, who drove in the only run of the afternoon on the home side.
-Carr struck out three batters in his eight innings of work, walking the four batters and allowing two unearned runs in the fifth. Eric Whitecavage struck out one in the ninth inning as well.
-Asheville scored its only run in the third inning when Wilson led off with a single, advanced around the bases and came in on Guy's RBI single into left field.
-The fifth inning for Mt. St. Mary's featured a leadoff error and also had an RBI groundout and the run-scoring passed ball.
-Asheville left four of its nine total runners on base over the final five at-bats of the afternoon.

-Following today's loss, Asheville readies for a pair of mid-week contests on the road, beginning Tuesday against Furman before taking on Appalachian State on Wednesday in Forest City, N.C.
