ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Junior Paige Trent delivered the game-winning goal in the 106th minute to give the UNC Asheville women's soccer team a come-from-behind double-overtime victory over South Carolina State Wednesday night at Dawson Stadium. Picking up their 11th win of the season Wednesday, the Bulldogs surpassed last year's total of 10.

 

THE TURNING POINT

Halftime was a crucial moment in the game as the first and second halves were markedly different for Asheville. The Bulldogs entered intermission trailing 2-0 after giving up goals in the 10th and 34th minutes and allowing a total of 10 shots. After the break, Asheville quickly went on the attack scoring goals in the 52nd and 58th minutes to tie the game at two. In the second half, Asheville fired off eight shots compared to South Carolina State's zero. 

 

NOTABLES

 

- Asheville bettered its win total of 10 from last season as the win on Wednesday improved the Bulldogs overall record to 11-6-0 this season. Wednesday's victory also snapped a two-game losing streak for the Bulldogs. 

 

- Asheville improves to 3-0 in overtime games this season and an impressive 7-1 in games decided by one goal.

 

- Sophomore Caroline Houser got the scoring going for Asheville, knocking in her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 52nd minute. Along with her seven goals, Houser also has a team-best nine assists.

 

- Junior Paige Trent delivered the equalizer in the 58th minute on a breakaway and then the game-winner in the 106th minute on an assist from freshman Justine James. Trent punched in her fifth and sixth goals of the season to record her first multi-goal game of the season.
