Women's Soccer Wins in OT, 3-2

NORMAL, Ala. – Kennedy Garrett's goal in the 104th minute gave the UNC Asheville women's soccer team a dramatic 3-2 overtime win over homestanding Alabama A&M Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (5-3-0) dominated most of the contest but trailed 2-1 late in regulation when freshman Emma Houser scored her first career goal at 89:34.
The game stayed 2-2 until Garrett scored her second goal of the season in the second overtime period to keep Asheville unbeaten on the road this year at 3-0-0. It came on a corner kick and Amanda Dailor was credited with an assist on the play.
Alabama A&M opened the scoring on its first shot of the game in the 17th minute totake a 1-0 lead. The goal was first of two by A&M's Margaret Seay The Bulldogs controlled the first half with a 17-6 edge in shots but could not the find the back of the net.
Asheville finally got on the board in the 51st minute when freshman Caroline Houser netted her third goal of the season to knot the match at 1-1.
The Bulldogs kept firing shots but couldn't score. Seay appeared to give the home team the win when she scored at 89:03.
But Asheville rallied and got the equalizer on Emma Houser's goal at 89:34 to tie the game at 2-2.
The Bulldogs out-shot A&M, 33-15. It was second highest shot total in school history.
Asheville opens Big South Conference play against Campbell this Wednesday afternoon at Greenwood Field starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday's match will be video-streamed on the Big South Network and can be seen for free.
