Women's Soccer Edges Campbell in BSC Opener, 1-0

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Amanda Dailor scored on a penalty kick for the game's only goal as UNC Asheville opened Big South Conference play with a 1-0 victory over visiting Campbell Wednesday afternoon at Greenwood Field.
The win was the Bulldogs' (6-3-0, 1-0-0 BSC) second straight victory and gave the home team its sixth victory of the year, matching last year's win total.
Campbell (2-5-1, 0-1-0 BSC) out-shot Asheville, 13-8. Bulldog goalkeeper Heather Muller did a great job in goal for the Blue & White with nine saves.
The game was scoreless for most of the match as each team took turns creating opportunities. Asheville just missed scoring midway through the first half on a corner kick when Bethany Spano's shot from the six just went wide.
Muller made a nice safe on a shot from Nicole Connolly late in the first half. She made four saves in the opening half.
In the second half, each team again had chances to score but could not get the ball into the back of the net. In the 74th minute, Campbell was called for a foul. Asheville sent a free kick into the box and the ball hit a Camel defender on the arm and the Bulldogs were awarded a penalty kick.
It was Asheville's first PK of the season. Dailor made it count as her shot went into the top of the goal for a 1-0 Bulldog lead at 75:00. It was the senior midfielder's team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Campbell picked up the attack in the final 15 minutes and fired the final five shots of the game. The Camels nearly tied in the final minute when Ashley Clark's shot from inside the box went just wide.
The Bulldogs were able to run off the final seconds to earn the victory.
UNC Asheville is back in action again on Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Presbyterian College for a 2 p.m. contest. Campbell hosts defending Big South Conference champion Liberty on Saturday at 1 p.m.
