Bulldogs Drop Midweek Game To Appalachian State, 9-5

BOONE, N.C. -- UNC Asheville took a 4-3 lead into the bottom the eighth inning but Appalachian State rallied for six runs in the frame, en route to a 9-5 victory over the Bulldogs on Tuesday afternoon at Smith Stadium in a midweek non-conference game.
Leadoff batter and second baseman went 2-for-5 at the plate with two runs batted in a one run scored. Fellow infielder Robert McIntosh was also 2-for-5 offensively with an RBI and a run scored as the two continue their strong play to start the season.
With the loss Asheville falls to 6-13 on the year while Appalachian improves to 10-11 overall.
The Mountaineers were led offensively by catcher Jeremy Dowdy who posted three RBI on three hits. Taylor Miller picked up the win in relief, tossing one and two-thirds innings for Appalachian.
David Ricker was credited with the loss for the Blue & White, allowing five runs on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts in relief. Drew Spear got the start for Asheville and went three and one-thirds innings.
The Bulldogs will be back in action this weekend when they host Big South Conference foe Coastal Carolina in a three game series at Greenwood Field. The Chanticleers are currently 13-8 on the year and have lost three consecutive games. However, this will be the first conference series of the year for Coastal, as the Chanticleers are currently on a 35-game conference win streak dating back to last season.
