Schumer Homers Twice; Bulldogs Drop Series 11-10

CHARLESTON, S.C.?Justin Schumer hit a pair of home runs and drove in five runs but Charleston Southern used an eight-run sixth inning to defeat UNC Asheville, 11-10, in the second game of a double-header Saturday.
The Bulldogs (3-9, 1-2 Big South) built a 10-3 lead after six innings. Catlin Carter doubled to lead off the ball game. He would score on a RBI ground out by Reed Kreiser to give Asheville a 1-0 lead.
Charleston Southern (6-6, 2-1 Big South) answered in the bottom of the first inning. Scotty Radabaugh doubled and scored on a single by Mark Perry. Perry would later score on a sacrifice fly by Derek Smith.
Cody Buch led off the second inning by drawing a walk. Kevin Weidenbacher and Danny Baatz singled to drive home Buch to tie the game. A throwing error allowed Baatz to score and back-to-back sacrifice flies by Carter and Schumer gave the Bulldogs a 5-2 lead.
In the third, Mike Vaughn had a one out single, moved to second on a ground out and scored on a base hit by Weidenbacher. Schumer hit his first home run of the game with Austin Graham on board in the fourth innings.
Schumer homered again, this time with Carter on base in the sixth to give Asheville a 10-3 lead. Schumer hit four home runs in the three-game series and finished the game 3-for-4 with five RBI.
In the bottom of the sixth, Kory Morian reached on an error, Jake Cox singled, and Tom Burkett was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no one out. Radabaugh reached on a fielder's choice allowing Morian to score. Perry singled home Cox and Patrick Dillion hit a three run home run to make the score 10-8.
Grier Harrington (0-1) came on to relieve Schumer on the mound. He was greeted with a base hit by Nick Chinners. After a pop-up for the second out, Smith singled and Morian connected on a three-run homer to give the Buccaneers the lead.
Dolan came on to pitch and shut out the Bulldogs over three innings allowing just one hit to earn the save. Jesse Cadenhead picked up the win to improve to 1-1 despite allowing 10 runs on 10 hits through six innings.
Asheville will travel to East Carolina for a two-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday.
