Baseball Falls at Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.? Gardner-Webb used a 21 hit attack and a seven run third inning to defeat UNC Asheville 13-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
Josh Drewery went six innings giving up just one run on two hits for Gardner-Webb (2-2) for his first victory of the season. Grier Harrington took the loss for Asheville (2-2) in his first career start. He went 2.1 innings giving up eight hits and seven earned runs.
GWU got on the board with two runs in the second and seven runs in the third highlighted by a bases clearing, three-RBI double by O.J. McFarland. The home standing Bulldogs added a run in the fourth to build a 10-0 lead.
Asheville got on the board in the top of the fifth inning. Kevin Mattison walked in front of a RBI-triple by Kevin Wiedenbacher.
GWU answered the run with one of its own in the bottom of the inning. Both teams but up two runs in the eighth.
Pinch hitters Johnny Martinez, Heath Lock, and Dan Lammers led off the inning with singles to load the bases for Asheville. Danny Baatz hit into a fielder's choice that scored Martinez. Brett Robinson worked a bases load walk to round out the scoring for Asheville.
The Bulldogs will travel to South Carolina on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
