CHARLOTTE, N.C. ? UNC Asheville senior guard Bryan Smithson (Kennesaw, Ga.) has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the games played the week of Jan. 7-13. It was announced today by the League office.
Smithson averaged 28.0 points in two games last week, pouring in a game-high 25 points at top-ranked North Carolina and then dropping in a career-high 31 points in Asheville's 74-70 Big South-opening win over Liberty. He was 10-of-15 from the field against the Tar Heels, including 3-of-5 from long distance, and added four rebounds, five assists and a steal. Saturday against the Flames, Smithson was 10-of-12 from the floor, made four three-pointers and contributed five rebounds, four assists and two steals in the victory. He made five of his first six shots and his final three-pointer of the day tied the game at 70. For the week, Smithson shot .741 percent from the floor (20-of-27), .636 from three-point range (7-of-11), .818 from the charity stripe (9-of-11) and averaged 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals.
