Women's Basketball Roars Past Presbyterian 87-54

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? UNC Asheville had four players record double-doubles for the first time in school history as the Bulldogs rolled to an 87-54 win over visiting Presbyterian at the Justice Center Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs had three players with double-doubles in points and rebounds, while one player had a double-double in points and assists.
The Blue Hose were led by Sharie Hopkins with 16 points. Amy Jones finished with 13 points. Jones also had six assists and four steals.
“We played very well in the second half and had a nice effort from everyone,” commented UNC Asheville coach Betsy Blose. “We started out slow on the rebounding end but did a much better job in that area as the game progressed. I thought our defense in the second half was quite good and made things tough for Presbyterian.
“We have a great deal of respect for Presbyterian,” added Blose. “They gave us all they wanted last year and are a well-coached team. We were able to get things going in the second half.”
Asheville had six players overall in double figures in scoring as Ashton Barton chipped in 13 points, while freshman Arescia Moore added 10.
The Bulldogs dominated the backboards with a 65-35 advantage and had 28 offensive rebounds.
The home team continued to dominate the rest of the game and ended up a scoring a season-high 87 points on the day.
The Bulldogs struggled to put the visitors away in the first half. Asheville built an early 10-point lead thanks to scoring from Montgomery and Shepard but the Blue Hose got 12 points from Hopkins in the first half and closed to 24-21 with 4:18 left when she scored on a five-footer.
