ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? UNC Asheville had four players record double-doubles for the first time in school history as the Bulldogs rolled to an 87-54 win over visiting Presbyterian at the Justice Center Saturday afternoon.

The victory by Asheville (5-4) ended a two-game losing streak. Presbyterian fell to 1-8 on the season.

The Bulldogs had three players with double-doubles in points and rebounds, while one player had a double-double in points and assists. Asheville was led by freshman Lindsey Montgomery with 16 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Stacy Shepard contributed 13 points and 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Sophomore forward Kyla Jones came off the bench and collected 10 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Ana Baker had 11 points and a career-best 11 assists.

Shepard's 13 rebounds gave her a career total of 553 moving into her 10th place on the school's all-time career rebounding list.

The Blue Hose were led by Sharie Hopkins with 16 points. Amy Jones finished with 13 points. Jones also had six assists and four steals.

“We played very well in the second half and had a nice effort from everyone,” commented UNC Asheville coach Betsy Blose. “We started out slow on the rebounding end but did a much better job in that area as the game progressed. I thought our defense in the second half was quite good and made things tough for Presbyterian.

“We have a great deal of respect for Presbyterian,” added Blose. “They gave us all they wanted last year and are a well-coached team. We were able to get things going in the second half.”

Asheville had six players overall in double figures in scoring as Ashton Barton chipped in 13 points, while freshman Arescia Moore added 10.

The Bulldogs dominated the backboards with a 65-35 advantage and had 28 offensive rebounds.

Asheville led by just nine at 35-26 at halftime before quickly taking control of the game early in the second half. Leading 37-27, the Bulldogs went on a 14-0 run to race to a 51-27 lead. Jones scored seven on her points during the run and her three-point play gave the Bulldogs a 24-point lead with 14:03 left in the game.

The home team continued to dominate the rest of the game and ended up a scoring a season-high 87 points on the day.

The Bulldogs struggled to put the visitors away in the first half. Asheville built an early 10-point lead thanks to scoring from Montgomery and Shepard but the Blue Hose got 12 points from Hopkins in the first half and closed to 24-21 with 4:18 left when she scored on a five-footer.

Asheville went on a 7-0 run to lead 33-21 before a trey from Katlin Moore and a lay-up from Jones narrowed the lead to 33-26 at the 40-second mark. Montgomery gave the Bulldogs a 35-26 halftime lead as she rebounded a missed shot and scored with three seconds left.

UNC Asheville plays next at home Wednesday night when the Bulldogs entertain Campbell of the Atlantic Sun Conference starting at 7 p.m. Presbyterian travels to West Virginia next Saturday for a 7 p.m. game against the Mountaineers.
