Bulldogs Open Big South Play with Saturday Night Victory over Presbyterian

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer opened Big South Conference play with a 3-1 Saturday night (Sept. 19) victory over visiting Presbyterian, marking the first time the Bulldogs have won a conference opener since a 1-0 win at Winthrop back on Sept. 23, 2015.
The teams traded runs, chances and possessions through the first half with each team recording four shots and Asheville edging Presbyterian 4-2 in corner kicks. The teams ultimately went to the break scoreless, with all of the scoring coming in the second half.
Presbyterian scored first just six minutes into the half, when Maddie Smith scored off an assist from Julija Poplasen. The Bulldogs attempted to turn up the pressure over the next few minutes, before a free kick was awarded to the Bulldogs outside of the penalty box on the far side. Lili Adams stepped up and launched a ball to the top corner for the equalizer for her fifth of the season and seventh of her career.
Asheville outshot Presbyterian 13-10 in the match, including 8-3 in shots on target in the contest. Asheville also edged Presbyterian 8-4 in corner kicks in the contest. Adams paced the offense with five shots in the contest, while Graumann added two and Arna Hogarth-Scott, Haydan Erck, Kandis Calvin, Manuela Schreier, Alexandra Gib and Alexa Francis each registered one shot in the match. London Phoenix (4-3-2) made two saves between the pipes in the win.
The Bulldogs (4-3-3, 1-0-0 Big South Conference) return to action next Saturday (Sept. 26) hosting High Point for the annual Blue Out match. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.

The Bulldogs would keep the pressure up and eventually put the game away with a goal in the 87th minute. A failed Presbyterian clear found its way to the feet of Adams.
