Longwood struck first with one run in the second inning after a scoreless first, before Asheville scratched across the tying run in the third when Jake Pereira doubled to left field to score Eric Krumpe. After holding the Lancers off the board in the home half, Asheville took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth when Jake Minarik blasted his fifth home run of the season to left. The teams would continue to trade blows over the next three innings, with Longwood answering in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at two. Each team would score two runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth to leave the game tied 5-5 heading to the seventh. Pereira was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth, before Logan Lowe advanced him to second with a sacrifice bunt. Blaize Johnson was intentionally walked, before Patrick Gillen singled through the right side to bring Pereira around to score and move Johnson to third. After a Longwood pitching change, Minarik lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to score Johnson and put the Bulldogs up 4-2. After Longwood knotted the game up yet again with two runs in the home half of the fifth, Asheville would take a 5-4 lead when Pereira slashed a single up the middle to score Tyler Parks. After Longwood would again score to tie the game 5-5, Asheville would one in the seventh and one in the eighth to give Smith all the cushion he would need to secure the victory. Parks would score Johnson on a RBI single to right in the seventh, before Johnson would score Pereira on a RBI single to left. Smith would hang up three scoreless frames to end the game and give the Bulldogs the win.
