Bulldogs Complete Weekend Sweep of Alabama A&M with 12-7 Win on Sunday

03.08.2026 | Baseball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Baseball completed a four-game weekend sweep of Alabama A&M with a 12-7 win on Sunday (Mar. 8, 2026). Along with the 8-7 win over Wofford back on Tuesday (Mar. 3), this marks the first time since Asheville's lone Big South Conference championship season back in 2006 that the Bulldogs have won five in a row and swept an entire week's worth of games.

The teams traded scoreless frames in the first, before Asheville would score the first run of the game in the home half of the second when Zeb Swangim came home on a Logan Lowe fielder's choice. Alabama A&M would respond with four runs in the top of the third, before Asheville would turn the tide and take the lead for good with eight runs in the bottom of the third. Asheville's first run came on Ben Green's second home run of the season, a solo blast to left. Jake Minarik would single through the left side, before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Swangim would draw a four-pitch walk, before Eric Krumpe would single through the right side to push Swangim to third and score Minarik. After an Alabama A&M pitching change, Coleman McGinnis would single to left center to score Swangim and push Krumpe to third before Chase Klingemann would follow suit with a single to center to score Krumpe and move McGinnis to third. McGinnis would score on a wild pitch with Klingemann moving to second, before Patrick Gillen and Blaize Johnson drew back-to-back two-out walks to extend the inning. Green would come back around for a two-RBI single to left to score Gillen and Klingemann, before Johnson would later score on a wild pitch that would move Green to second. After a scoreless fourth for both teams, Alabama A&M would score one in the fifth and two in the sixth to cut into the Asheville lead. Klingemann would start the offense with a one-out single up the middle, before Lowe would single up the middle to move Klingemann to second. After an Alabama A&M pitching change, Gillen would single through the right side to score Klingemann and move Lowe to third. Johnson would reach on a fielder's choice that scored Lowe later in the inning to bring the game to its final score.

Klingemann paced the offense going 3-5 in the game, while Lowe, Green, Swangim and McGinnis each had two hits in the game. Gillen, Minarik and Krumpe each had one hit in the game. Swangim scored a career-high three runs in the game, while Klingemann scored twice and Lowe, Gillen, Johnson, Green, Minarik, Krumpe and McGinnis each scored once in the game. Green drove in a career-high three runs in the game, while McGinnis also drove in two runs and Lowe, Gillen, Krumpe, Johnson and Klingemann each had one RBI in the game. Lowe and Johnson each also stole a base in the game. Colin Woolard got the start for the Bulldogs allowing two runs, one earned on two hits through two innings with one strikeout. Nic Melton would come on relief allowing three runs, one earned on four hits through 2.1 innings with two walks and three strikeouts. Nick Bruno (2-0) earned the win for the Bulldogs, finishing the fifth with 0.2 innings allowing one run with one walk. Branden Barna would relieve Bruno allowing one unearned run through 0.2 innings, before TJ Brooks also picked up one out in his outing. Ryland Howell and Green combined to finish the game with scoreless appearances, with Howell picking up one strikeout in one inning and Green allowing one hit and one walk to go along with one strikeout through two innings of relief.

The Bulldogs (10-7) return to action on Tuesday (Mar. 10) hosting Morehead State in non-conference action. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
