Women's Tennis Prepares for Two Matches This Week

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Tennis prepares for two matches on the road this week, playing at North Greenville on Monday (Mar. 2) and at Western Carolina on Friday (Mar. 6).

About the Bulldogs - The Bulldogs come into the week at 4-3 after a 5-2 win over North Carolina Central on Friday (Feb. 27). The Bulldogs are 22-20 in singles play on the season, along with 10-10 in doubles play. Avery Sager and Maria Sol Alvarez Brandon lead the way with four wins in doubles play, while the tandems of Isabella Moss/Valeria Centeno and Angelina Joy Hug/Sofia Segui each have three wins in doubles play. Hug and Segui each have five wins in singles play, while Centeno and Sager have four each and Brandon has three with Moss adding one. 
 
About the Trailblazers - North Greenville comes into the match at 4-4 overall after a 6-1 win over Emory & Henry back on Feb. 24. The Trailblazers are 26-20 overall in singles play along with being 9-13 in doubles play. Julia Machado, Andjela Mrvaljevic and Adriana Flores each have six wins in singles play, while Abigail Watson also has four wins in singles play. Juliana Figueroa has two wins in singles play, while Mikayla McKenzie and Lauren Harrelson each have one win. Watson and Machado lead the way in doubles play with three wins, while Mrvaljevic and Harrelson have two wins in doubles play. Four other doubles tandems each have one win on the season.    
 
Series History - This will be the sixth all-time meeting between Asheville and North Greenville, with Asheville leading the all-time series 5-0. Asheville won the last meeting between the two teams 7-0 back on Feb. 17, 2024.

About the Catamounts - Western Carolina comes into the matchup at 1-8 overall after a 6-1 loss to North Carolina A&T back on Saturday (Feb. 28). The Catamounts have 10 singles wins on the season, along with five doubles wins. Mariya Dobreva leads the way with six singles wins, while Mia Miranda has two wins and Axelle Van Beurden and Kelly Coetzee each have one win in singles play. Dobreva and Miranda have four doubles wins on the season, while Van Beurden and Coetzee also have one win in doubles play.  
 
Series History - This will be the 21st all-time meeting between Asheville and Western Carolina, with Asheville leading the all-time series 14-6. Western Carolina won last year's matchup 4-3 back on Feb. 28, 2025.
