Bulldogs Extend Win Streak to Three with 5-2 Win over North Carolina Central

CARY, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Tennis extended its win streak to three with a 5-2 win over North Carolina Central on Friday (Feb. 27).

The Bulldogs captured the doubles point with two wins in doubles play, before picking up four wins in singles play to secure the match. Avery Sager and Maria Sol Alvarez Brandon started the party with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles over Patricia Palencia and Journee Henderson, before North Carolina Central earned a win at No. 1 doubles to tie doubles play. Valeria Centeno and Isabella Moss then cliched the doubles point for the Bulldogs with a 7-5 win at No. 2 over Valeria San Miguel and Sara Barbaric.

Sager then started singles play with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 over Mariana Zottoli, before Sofia Segui dispatched Gabriela Mejia 6-0 , 6-1 at No. 5 to put Asheville ahead 3-0. After North Carolina Central got on the board with a win at No. 2, Angelina Joy Hug would clinch the match with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win over Alejandra Hidalgo. Centeno would help the Dogs to the final score in the match with a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) win over Valentina de Aquino at No. 6 before North Carolina Central's final win of the day would come at No. 4.
