Baseball Drops Midweek Contest at ETSU on Tuesday

ETSU built a 6-0 lead through three innings, before Asheville got on the board with three runs in the top half of the fourth. Blaize Johnson led off the inning with a leadoff single, before Brock Mercado was hit by a pitch with one out to move Johnson to second. After both runners moved up on a wild pitch, Owen Michelson laced his first career triple to left to score both men and get the Bulldogs on the board. With two outs in the inning, Corbin Lanowitz would poke a seeing-eye single through the right side to score Michelson representing the third run in the inning for the Bulldogs. ETSU would respond with five runs in the bottom of the fourth and two in the home half of the fifth to stretch their lead, before Asheville would respond with two runs in the top of the sixth. Mercado began the sixth with a leadoff single to left, before Michelson drew a walk to put two runners on. Jake Pereira would single to right center to load the bases, before Mercado would come home on a groundout by Lanowitz. Michelson would later score on a two-out single to right by Logan Lowe. ETSU would answer with eight runs in the home half of the sixth, before Asheville would plate two runs in the top of the seventh to bring the game to its final score. Charlie Stogner would reach on a one-out pinch-hit walk, before advancing to second on a wild pitch before Chase Klingemann would draw a walk behind him. Kolby Watson was hit by a pitch to load the bases, before Johnny Brucato ripped a pinch-hit single to right to score Stogner and Klingemann.

Lanowitz paced the offense with two hits in the game, while Lowe, Johnson, Mercado, Michelson, Brucato and Pereira each had one hit in the game. Michelson and Brucato each drove in two runs in the game, with both men notching new career-highs. Lanowitz and Lowe each also drove in one run in the game. Mercado and Michelson each scored twice with both setting new career-highs, while Johnson, Stogner and Klingemann each scored once in the game. Zachary Gaydos (0-2) took the loss on the bump, allowing four runs on five hits through two innings with three walks and one strikeout. He was relieved by 1.1 innings each from Chase Buscher and Sam Thompson before Asheville used a combination of Cal Barna, Coleman McGinnis and Nic Melton to finish out the game.
