Bulldogs Stay Local for Catamount Classic this Weekend

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville Track and Field team will compete in its final regular season meet this Friday and Saturday (April 25-26) in the Catamount Classic, hosted by Western Carolina University.

Asheville will compete against 14 schools, including conference foes Gardner-Webb, ahead of the Big South Outdoor Championships May 12-14.

BULLDOGS IN CONTENTION

Ahead of this weekend's meet, 15 Bulldogs are in the top eight of their respective events among the Big South Conference. 

DaMarr Harvey sits at No. 6 (10.58) in the men's 100m. Chaniya Owens also entered at No. 6 after setting a personal best of 12.09 at the Tennessee Invite (April 4-5) and No. 5 in the women's triple jump rankings at 11.22 meters. 

Shemarr Session is currently top of conference rankings in the men's 200m with his school record-breaking time of 20.66, ahead of Harvey at No. 3 (20.88). Session also sits in No. 3 spot (14.52) in the men's 110m hurdles. 

Nikole Baikova holds the No. 8 spot in the women's 800m with 2:15.23. 

Jan Málek is at No. 4 in the men's 1,500m with 3:48.07, the fastest mark in school history set at the Bulldog Invite (April 11-12), with Aneta Kucerová at No. 8 with 4:35.63. Málek is also holding down the men's 3,000m steeplechase with his school record mark of 8:58.03, joined by Jonas Roach at No. 3 with his personal best of 9:29.63. Málek set the record at the Raleigh Relays (March 27). 

Paul Kiprotich holds No. 2 (14:20.26) in the men's 5,000m and Adam Hessler sits at No. 4 with 14:24.69. Kiprotich's time is the second fastest in school history. Hessler and Kiprotich also entered at No. 3 (29:38.51) and No. 4 (30:01.04) in the men's 10,000m rankings after the Raleigh Relays, where both Bulldogs dipped under the previous school record, and Hessler set the new program time to beat. 

Adam Graham is at No. 5 (55.78) in the men's 400m hurdles. 

The school record-breaking men's 4x100m relay team of Joseph Oliver, DaMarr Harvey, Shemarr Session, and Nkosi Jeju holds the No. 2 spot at 40.01. The record was broken at the Bulldog Invite. The men's 4x400m relay team currently holds No. 3 with 3:17.01. The women's team is at No. 6 in the 4x100m relay with 48.16, and No. 7 in the 4x400m relay at 4:05.82. 

Jeju's school record-breaking jump of 7.28 meters, set at the Bulldog Invite, puts him at No. 3 in the men's long jump rankings. Murielle Jeanite holds No. 7 (5.34 meters) on the women's side. 

 Gabe Matthews sits at No. 6 (13.84 meters) in the men's triple jump. Jaelyn Arnold holds the No. 4 in the women's shot put at 12.13 meters, and Madison Hannah sits at No. 5 in the women's discus at 41.85 meters.
