Baseball Suffers Doubleheader Sweep at Western Kentucky on Saturday

Asheville scored the first run of the game when Rylen Stockton scored on a Blaize Johnson to right center, before Western Kentucky countered with one in the first, two in the second and two in the third. The teams would then trade blank frames until the sixth, when Owen Michelson doubled home Stockton before Western Kentucky added three runs in their half to bring the game to its final score.

Stockton and Johnson each had two hits in the game, while Logan Lowe, Michelson, Charlie Stogner and Jake Pereira each had one. Stockton scored both of Asheville's runs, while Johnson and Michelson each drove in one run. Colby Guy (2-2) took the loss in the game allowing five runs, three earned on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts in three innings. He was relieved by 2.2 innings from Nick Bruno who allowed three runs on one hit with five walks and two strikeouts, before Nic Melton recorded the final out for Asheville with a strikeout.

Asheville scored four runs in the top of the first, before Western Kentucky would tie the game with four runs in the third. Corbin Lanowitz reached on a one-out error in the infield, before Rylen Stockton singled through the right side to push him to second and a Blaize Johnson walk loaded the bases. An infield single by Michelson and a ball in play by Brock Mercado each brought home a run, before a two-out single form Patrick Gillen scored Michelson and Johnson to build Asheville's lead. The teams would trade two scoreless innings before Asheville brought one home in the top of the seventh when Lanowitz singled down the right field line to score Isaac Turner. Western Kentucky would bring the game to its final score with five runs in the sixth and eight runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Michelson paced the offense with two hits in the game, along with one hit each from Lanowitz, Stockton, Gillen and Turner. Lanowitz, Stockton, Michelson, Johnson and Turner each scored one run in the game, while Gillen drove in two runs and Lanowitz, Michelson and Mercado each drove in one. Shea Walker got the start for the Bulldogs, allowing four runs on six hits through 2.2 innings while Garrett Crum fired two innings of scoreless relief allowing one hit and three walks along with three strikeouts. Ryland Howell (0-1), Matthew Hall, Zachary Gaydos and Sam Thompson combined to finish the game on the mound for Asheville.
