Baseball Drops Midweek Contest to Wofford on Tuesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Baseball dropped its midweek contest to Wofford on Tuesday (Mar. 18) by a score of 5-2 at Greenwood Field.

Wofford built a 5-0 lead through the first five innings, before Asheville would get two runs back with one in the eighth and one in the ninth. Blaize Johnson would get the Bulldogs on the board with his second home run of the season with a solo shot down the right field line in the eighth, before Chase Klingemann would collect his first career hit as well as his first career RBI bringing home Eric Krumpe with a single in the ninth.

Brock Mercado paced the offense with two hits in the game, while Logan Lowe, Krumpe, Charlie Stogner, Klingemann, and Johnson each had one hit. Krumpe and Johnson each scored runs in the game for Asheville, while Klingemann and Johnson each drove in one run. Nic Melton (0-1) took the loss on the bump allowing three runs, two earned on four hits with four strikeouts in two innings. Ryland Howell tossed one inning of relief allowing one run on one hit with one walk, before being relieved by 1.2 innings from Sam Thompson. Thompson allowed one run on two hits with two walks and one strikeout, before giving way to a scoreless 1.1 innings from Cal Barna. Barna surrendered just one walk with three strikeouts in his outing, before being relieved by two scoreless innings from Matthew Hall. Hall scattered two hits in his outing, before Tony Lopez took the ball. Lopez picked up one strikeout in one inning while allowing one hit.
