Bulldogs Prepped and Ready for Big South Indoor Championships

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville track and field team is primed and ready for the Big South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which begins this Friday, Feb. 28, and finishes Saturday, March. 1. The Championships mark the third and final time Asheville will compete in Columbia at the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex this season.
"Our men's and women's teams have set numerous school records this season as well as top five marks, and we hope to continue that in this Conference Championship," said head coach Joel Williams.

HOW ASHEVILLE STACKS UP IN THE LEAGUE
Asheville has seven top-five rankings in the Big South leaderboard this season:
60 meters - Jalen Anderson - 3rd - 6.87, Nkosi Jeju - 5th - 6.90
200 meters - Jalen Anderson - 1st - 21.25, Shemarr Session - 2nd - 21.27
Mile - Paul Kiprotich - 5th - 4:11.47
60 Hurdles - Shemarr Session - 1st - 8.16
4 x 400 Relay - UNC Asheville A - 3rd - 3:15.40
Long Jump - Nkosi Jeju - 2nd - 7.34m

LAST TIME OUT
Asheville saw three school records fall at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational (Feb. 14-15). Paul Kiprotich claimed two school records, the 3,000m at 18:18.61 and the mile at 4:11.47. On the women's side of the mile, Isabel Richardson set a new school record of 4:59.01.
Nikole Baikova entered the record book at No. 2 in the 500m after finishing 1:17.61. The men's 4x400m relay team of Joseph Oliver, Shemarr Session, Christopher Owens, and Jalen Anderson jumped from No. 5 to No. 2 after crossing the line at 3:15.40.
CHAMPIONSHIP REWIND
The Bulldogs recorded 10 podium finishes at the Championships last year, with the men finishing fourth (84 pts) and the women finishing fifth (59.33 pts). Brianna Moore (Long Jump), Zac Weas (60m Hurdles), and Jalen Anderson (200m) each won conference titles, while Adam Hessler and Alison Graf both earned silver in the men's 3,000m (8:30.78) and the women's 800m (2:13.04).
