Women's Basketball Drops Conference Contest to Radford Wednesday Night

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball dropped its Big South Conference contest to Radford Wednesday night (Feb. 19) inside Kimmel Arena by a score of 63-39.
 
The teams played a slow-moving first quarter, staying tied 2-2 into the final three minutes of the quarter. Radford outscored Asheville 7-3 in the remainder of the quarter taking a 9-5 lead to the second.
 
Radford outscored Asheville 19-10 in the second quarter for a 28-15 halftime lead.
 
Radford scored 17 points to Asheville's 11 in the third quarter to stretch their lead in the period.
 
Radford would cap the win outscoring Asheville 18-13 in the fourth.
 
Asheville shot 22.2 percent (14-63) from the field in the game, just 15.4 percent (4-26) from three-point range and just 50 percent (7-14) from the foul line in the game. Asheville outscored Radford 17-2 on second chances, while also scoring 11 points off turnovers, 18 points in the paint, three points on fast breaks and 11 points off the bench. Abigail Wilson and Taylor Wilkins each scored 10 points to pace Asheville, while Dakota McCaughan had eight points. LaImani Simmons had seven points in the game, while Deborah Orianegbena and Trinity Barnes each had two points. Asheville out-rebounded Radford 41-33 in the game, paced by a game-high nine boards from Orianegbena. Wilson grabbed six rebounds in the game, while Skylar Bailey matched her career-high with five rebounds in the game. Sydney Burris added four rebounds in the game, while McCaughan had three. Simmons, Barnes and Alana Swift each had two rebounds in the game, while Wilkins also had one. Simmons dished out a team-high three assists in the game, while Bailey and Orianegbena each had two with Orianegbena matching her career-high. Wilson and McCaughan each had one assist in the game. McCaughan paced Asheville with four steals in the game, while Bailey, Simmons and Orianegbena each had one in the game.
