Two School Records Highlight Final Day of Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bulldogs had a successful final day of competition at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational this Saturday, with back-to-back school records shattered in the one mile invite and eight personal bests broken on and inside the track. 

Record Book Adjustments 

Paul Kirprotich added another title to his stellar repertoire as a Bulldog, doubling back with his second school record of the weekend in the men's mile invite. Kirprotich finished 12th overall at 4:11.47, breaking Adam Hessler's school record time by .25. Hessler matched pace with Kirprotich until the very last lap to place 19th in a time of 4:13.87. 

Following suit, Isabel Richardson set a new school record of 4:59.01 in the women's mile invite to place 19th. Micki Logue held the previous record at 4:59.82 since 2004. 

In the women's 500m, Nikole Baikova enters the program leaderboard at No. 2 following her first attempt at the distance. She placed 11th in 1:17.61.

In the men's 4x400m relay, the team of Joseph Oliver, Shemarr Session, Christopher Owens, and Jalen Anderson ran a cumulative time of 3:15.40 to jump from No. 5 to No. 2 on the all-time performance list. 

Track

Jalen Anderson clocked the highest finish for a Bulldog in the men's 200m, placing third in 21.25. Breathing down his neck was Shemarr Session, who crossed the line in fourth with his time of 21.35. Anderson and Session hold No.1 and No.2 on the All-Time list.

Francesca Cergol placed 56th (26.24) in the women's section of the 200m.

In the 300m, Christopher Owens clocked a personal best of 35.49 to place 15th. In the women's section, Kamryn Peeples placed 45th in 43.73. 

There was a pair of personal bests in the men's open mile, with Quinn Jacquez finishing in 11th (4:22.83) and Lance Surles close behind in 16th (4:25.13). The Bulldogs were joined by Jonas Roach, who ran 4:29.31 to place 28th. 

On the women's side of the open mile, Ella Moore placed 46th (5:24.95), and Ella Warren placed 51st (4:29.88). 

A quartet of Bulldogs competed shoulder-to-shoulder in the men's 1,000m, with Jacoby Ennis leading the pack to place 20th in 2:33.52. Ennis was joined by Tadiyos Sloan-Westmoreland (30th, 2:37.10), Logan Russo (31st, 2:38.15), and Andrew Okon (32nd, 2:38.19). 

Maddie Hamuka secured a personal best of 3:21.08 on the women's side of 1,000m.

Field

In the women's shot put, Jaelyn Arnold secured the highest finish of 38th with her throw of 11.21m. She was joined by Neely Rogan (43rd, 10.86m) and Madison Hannah (45th, 10.35m, PR). In the women's Triple Jump, Chaniya Owens placed 33rd with a distance of 11.09m, and Gabe Matthews placed 12th in the men's section as he jumped to a personal best distance of 13.89m. 

Relays

The women's 4 x 400m relay team placed 20th overall in 4:01.05. The team was led out of the blocks by Francesca Cergol, followed by Murielle Jeanite, Nikole Baikova, and Zoe Bos. 

The men's B team placed 21st in 3:30.44. The team included Adam Graham, Jacoby Ennis, Logan Russo, and Andrew Okon. 

Next Time

The Bulldogs will spike up one last time during indoor season at the Big South Conference Championships Feb. 28- Mar. 1 in Columbia, South Carolina.
