Bulldogs Complete Sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Baseball completed the sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday (Feb. 15) at Greenwood Field with an 11-7 win. It marks the first three-game non-conference sweep for the Bulldogs since the Bulldogs swept Niagara at Greenwood Field Mar. 9-11 of last season.
 
Starter Branden Barna worked a 1-2-3 top half of the first before jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the home half. The inning began with back-to-back singles up the middle from Logan Lowe and Corbin Lanowitz, before Patrick Gillen walked to load the bases with no one out. Owen Michelson scored Lowe on a groundout, before Lanowitz later scored on a wild pitch. Asheville would add two more runs in the home half of the third, starting with a leadoff walk to Lanowitz. Lanowitz would score his second run of the game after Gillen ripped a double into the right field corner, before Michelson reached on a fielding error. After both men advanced on a wild pitch and Ben Hemphill drew a walk, Gillen would score on a wild pitch to put the Bulldogs up 4-0. Fairleigh Dickinson tied things up with four runs in the top of the fourth, before Asheville took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth. Caiden Chilausky was hit by a pitch to start the inning, before scoring on a Jake Pereira double to left center. Pereira would later score on a single to right center off the bat of Lowe. After Asheville held FDU off the board in the top of the fifth, Rylen Stockton would start the inning off with a walk. Hemphill singled to center, before Stockton moved up on a passed ball putting runners at the corners with no one out. Brock Mercado pushed a run across with a squeeze play, before Chilausky loaded the bases with a bunt single. Asheville would tack on two more runs on back-to-back sacrifice flies from Pereira and Lowe in the inning. Fairleigh Dickinson would get two more runs in the sixth and one more in the ninth, while Asheville would get one in the seventh and one in the eighth. The run in the seventh came as Chilausky scored on a Pereira single, while Kolby Watson picked up a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to score Lanowitz in the eighth.
 
Five Bulldogs each had two hits in the game in Lowe, Lanowitz, Hemphill, Chilausky and Pereira, while Gillen and Mercado each had one hit in the game. Lanowitz paced the Bulldogs scoring three runs in the game, while Chilausky scored twice and Lowe, Gillen, Stockton, Hemphill, Mercado and Pereira each scored once. Pereira drove in a team-high three runs in the game, while Lowe and Mercado each had two RBI and Gillen and Watson each had one run batted in in the contest. Barna fired two innings in his 2025 debut, allowing one hit while Sam Thompson relieved him for one inning allowing two earned runs on one hit with one walk and one strikeout. Tony Lopez and Matthew Hall (1-0) cleaned up the next two innings, with Hall getting the win tossing 1.1 innings allowing one hit with one walk and one strikeout. Chase Buscher handled the sixth inning allowing two runs on one hit with three walks and one strikeout, before he was relieved from his college debut for another in Garrett Crum. Crum allowed three hits over two innings keeping FDU off the board while striking out three. John Whiteside took care of the ninth inning, allowing one run on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.
