ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Baseball opened the 2025 season on Friday (Feb. 14) at Greenwood Field with a doubleheader sweep of Fairleigh Dickinson, winning game one 10-7 and game two 5-0. The shutout was the first for Asheville since a 12-0 combined effort over Longwood back on Mar. 24, 2023.

Game One

After Fairleigh Dickinson scored three runs in the top of the first, Asheville would counter with two runs in the home half to cut the deficit back to one. The inning began with a single to right center by Logan Lowe and a walk from Corbin Lanowitz. After both runners moved up on a wild pitch, Patrick Gillen drove Lowe home on a groundout before Ben Hemphill brought Lanowitz home on a single through the left side. Fairleigh Dickinson would tack on another run in the top half of the second, before Asheville would bring six runs across in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good in the game. Owen Michelson led off the inning with a single up the middle, before Hemphill singled off FDU's pitcher to put two on with no one out. After Brock Mercado reached on an error to score Michelson, Jake Minarik would double down the left field line to bring home Hemphill and push Mercado to third. Coleman McGinnis would then launch a double to deep center to score both runners, before Jake Pereira doubled down the right field line advancing to third on a throwing error. The final run of the third was a single by Lowe that scored Pereira. The teams would trade scoreless frames thanks to some clutch pitching on the part of Asheville's Nick Bruno, before Asheville put one run up on a Michelson RBI single that scored Lowe. Fairleigh Dickinson would plate two runs in the top of the seventh and one in the top of the ninth, while Asheville's two runs came in the bottom of the eighth. Pereira would score his second run of the day on a sacrifice fly from Lanowitz in the inning to bring the game to its final score.
