ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Baseball has several alumni making splashes in the minor leagues lately, across all levels.
 
Clay Edmondson '25 continues to excel in the San Diego Padres system, pitching for the High-A Fort Wayne Tin Caps of the Midwest League. To date this season, Edmondson has appeared in 19 games in relief totaling 22.2 innings to go along with 33 strikeouts and a 1.59 earned run average.
 
Edmondson pitched at UNC Asheville from 2023-25 totaling 156.1 innings allowing 84 runs, 71 earned on 151 hits. He tallied 156 career strikeouts as a Bulldog to just 59 walks with a career .259 batting average against. 2025 was a breakout season for the redshirt junior from Greensboro, as he made 13 starts earning five wins in a league-best 81.2 innings during the regular season. He finished tied for the league lead with 87 strikeouts and posted the best ERA in the conference and the 11th-best ERA in the nation at 2.20. His 2.20 ERA is fifth all-time on Asheville's all-time single-season list, and he finished second in the league in opposing batting average at .224. Edmondson was named Big South Conference Starting Pitcher of the Week twice, and was named to the College Baseball Hall of Fame Pitcher of the Year Midseason Watch List. He was a First Team All-Conference selection and the first Bulldog since 2008 to be named Big South Conference Pitcher of the Year. Edmondson was later named a Second Team All-Atlantic Region selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association. 
 
Jordan Carr '19 currently pitches for the Asheville Tourists, High-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. Through six appearances and 21.1 innings on the season, Carr has posted 13 strikeouts.
 
A four-year member of the Bulldogs program from 2016-2019, Carr made 38 appearances including 36 starts with seven wins, one complete game and one shutout. He totaled 188 innings, striking out 111 batters. Carr was the team's Big South Conference All-Academic Team representative in 20219, while earning one Big South Conference Starting Pitcher of the Week honor in 2018.
 
Dominic Freeberger is playing for the High-A Peoria Chiefs in the Midwest League in the St. Louis Cardinals system. On the mound he has two wins on the season in 18 appearances, totaling 32 strikeouts in 20 innings.  
 
Freeberger '22 made 29 appearances on the mound in relief and recorded five saves and three wins as a Bulldog. As a hitter, Freeberger finished his Bulldog career with a .303 batting average, 200 hits, 78 RBIs, 38 doubles, five triples, and seven home runs. Freeberger started in all but one game at Asheville, finishing his career with 165 starts and 166 appearances. Freeberger earned All-BIg South First Team honors in 2021 and 2022. In 2021, Freeberger landed his spot on the first team as a utility player, recording outings in seven different positions, with lone exceptions being second base and catcher. Freeberger also had a breakout campaign at the plate, hitting .333 with six home runs and 30 RBI. Overall, he led Asheville in at-bats (201), hits (67), doubles (12), and triples (3). Freeberger was particularly productive against conference opponents, leading all players with 59 hits in Big South games. Freeberger also appeared in 11 games as a pitcher, where he posted a 2-1 record and recorded a pair of saves. In 2022, Freeberger played eight of the nine positions, with the lone exception being catcher. He led the team in batting average (.330) and hits (62), including a .364 average with 14 RBI vs. Big South competition. As a pitcher, Freeberger saved three games and held opposing hitters to a .081 batting average. 
 
Jacob Edwards '22 is pitching for the Dayton Dragons this season, High-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds in the Midwest League. Edwards has totaled 10 appearances and 28.1 innings, striking out 27.
 
Edwards pitched for the Bulldogs from 2019-22, leaving his mark across the Bulldogs record book. Through 56 appearances, he totaled 16 wins and one save through 229 innings pitched. His 4.17 career earned run average is sixth all-time, while he is fourth all-time with 42 starts. His 16 wins are tied for fifth all-time, while his 209 strikeouts are tied for sixth all-time in program history. Edwards was also a 2022 All-Conference First Team selection for Asheville, while earning a pair of Starting Pitcher of the Week honors in 2021 and a Freshman of the Week selection in 2019.
