ASHEVILLE'S LAST TIME OUT
- UNC Asheville men's basketball closed out its home non-conference slate with two victories inside Kimmel Arena this past week. The Bulldogs defeated Kentucky Christian 83-73 on Tuesday (Dec. 16) and Morris College 89-56 on Thursday (Dec. 18).
- In back-to-back games, Asheville has had every player who entered the game find their way into the scoring column. In two games so far this week, Justin Wright leads the team, averaging 16.5 points a game. He is closely followed by Toyaz Solomon, who is averaging 16 points. DJ Patrick is averaging 12 points, while Kameron Taylor is averaging 11.5.
- Toyaz Solomon recorded two double-doubles this week, and Sage Tolentino narrowly missed a double-double against Morris, tallying nine points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Eight of those boards came on the offensive glass.
MAYFIELD EARNS BSC HONORS
- For his performances last week, Myles Mayfield earned Big South Freshman of the Week honors. Over two games, Mayfield shot an impressive 7-of-8 from the field (.875), scoring 10 points last Wednesday and seven last Saturday to average 8.5 points per game for the week.
- This week, Mayfield is averaging 7.0 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game.
BULLDOGS PUTTING IN THE MINUTES
- Patrick and Taylor lead Asheville and the league in minutes per game, with Patrick averaging 33:41 minutes per game and Taylor averaging 32:37.
- Solomon played all 40 minutes against NC State, joining Patrick, who has seen every minute in two contests so far this season.
- The last Bulldog to play an entire contest before Solomon and Patrick was Tajion Jones against Campbell in the Big South Conference Championship in 2023.
ASHEVILLE THROUGH THIRTEEN
- The Bulldogs have four guys averaging double-digit points, led by Wright with 17.5, followed by Solomon with 16.8, Taylor with 15.9 and Patrick with 10.4.
- Wright and Solomon both have 82 made field goals with Wright having a .558 field goal percentage and Solomon having a .519.
- Patrick leads the team with 27 three-pointers and is followed by Wright with 25.
- At the free throw line, Taylor is 58-of-80, leading the team and the league in free throws and free throw attempts. He is No. 40 in the nation in attempts and No. 52 in made free throws.
- Solomon leads the team, averaging 6.5 rebounds per game and Taylor follows with 6.2.
- Taylor leads the team with 46 assists and is followed by Wright with 35.
- Wright leads the team with 19 steals and is followed by Solomon with 13.
- Solomon leads the team with 13 blocks and is followed by Taylor with nine.
A LOOK AT UAB
- UAB is No. 1 in the American Conference and No. 21 in the country in fast break points per game with 17.92.
- UAB is No. 1 in the league and No. 10 in rebounds per game grabbing 43.00 and No. 9 in offensive rebounds per game with 14.83.
- Evan Chatman is 20th in the nation in rebounds with 111 total and 16th in defensive rebounds per game with 6.92. KyeRon Lindsay-Martin is 14th in offensive rebounds per game with 3.83.
- UAB is the second American Conference team Asheville has faced this season, as the Bulldogs opened their season at Wichita.
- Following their non-conference finale against Asheville, UAB opens conference play against Wichita.
- UAB leads the series against Asheville 3-0 with all three contests being in Birmingham, starting on Dec. 14, 2014, with the most recent contest on Dec. 29, 2023.
