Women's Swimming and Diving Turns In Solid Day at Midseason Competitions on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Swimming and Diving turned in a solid day at its two midseason competitions on Saturday (Nov. 22). Through three days, Asheville remains in sixth place with 384 points as a team.  
 
Andie Quisumbing swam the 100 fly in a season-best 55.99, while Taylor Smith posted a season-best time of 56.84 in the event. Alessia Cunegatti finished sixth in the 400 IM in a season-best 4:23.50, while Anna Kate Halligan swam a lifetime-best 4:25.44 in the event. Rose Sciaudone posted a season-best time of 4:34.10 in the event, while Tess Peny also swam the race in 4:40.60. Anna Marcotti finished ninth in the 200 free in a season-best time of 1:51.02, while Beatrice Cocconcelli swam the 100 breast in a season-best time of 1:04.60. Miriam Wheatley (1:04.80), Gracelyn Cox (1:04.84) and Smith (1:07.58) also swam in the event. Quisumbing also swam the 100 back in season-best time of 57.88. The quartet of Amelia Presley, Cox, Smith and Cocconcelli finished the 200 medley relay in 1:45.42, while the team of Gracie Hunt, Wheately, Quisumbing and Danai Gkogkosi swam the event in 1:47.21.
 
In the 3M diving finals, Leigha Travis finished fourth with a score of 237.00 while Haley Fein finished eighth with a score of 188.90.
 
Asheville had 12 finals appearances on Saturday, while the Bulldogs registered 19 season-best times and one lifetime-best time. Quisumbing qualified for the B final of the 100 fly in a season-best 56.74, while Smith posted a season-best 57.09 to earn a spot in the C final. Gianna Riffel also swam the event in a season-best 58.60. Cunegatti qualified for the A final of the 400 IM in a season-best time of 4:27.19, while Halligan earned a spot in the C final in a season-best time of 4:33.23. Sciaudone (4:36.80) and Peny (4:38.70) each swam season-best times to qualify for the D final. Marcotti earned a spot in the B final of the 200 free in a season-best 1:52.14, while Danai Gkogkosi (1:55.99) and Celine Petruschke (2:00.75) each swam season-best times in the event. Kathryn Walters also posted a time of 2:01.09 in the event. Cox (1:04.17) and Wheatley (1:04.67) each earned a spot in the B final of the 100 breast, with Cox swimming a season-best time and Wheatley posting a lifetime-best. Smith (1:05.80) and Cocconcelli (1:05.65) each qualified for the C final with season-best marks, while Riffel also swam a season-best 1:08.26 in the event. Quisumbing earned a spot in the D final of the 100 back in a season-best 58.04, while Madden Weir (1:02.80), Gracie Hunt (59.08), Amelia Presley (58.60), and Savanna Bush (1:00.40) each swam season-best times in the event.
 
"It's really exciting to be able to have the opportunity to swim fast and cheer for my teammates,"said Halligan. "We have gotten some really good races in this meet and I'm looking forward to what is to come!"
 
In the diving prelims of the 3M competition, Leigha Travis and Haley Fein each qualified for the B finals with respective scores of 233.30 and 204.85.
 
"I'm very pleased with the divers' performance today!" said diving coach Bailey Betzer. "We had some great dives all around, and we're looking forward to their last event tomorrow!"
 
The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow (Sunday, Nov. 23) for the final day of competition. Swimming prelims begin at 9:30 a.m. from Charlotte with video and tickets available at www.uncabulldogs.com, while diving prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. from Lynchburg.
