11 Bulldogs Advance to Finals in Midseason Invites for Women's Swimming and Diving

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Swimming and Diving saw 11 Bulldogs compete in the finals between the Fall Frenzy Invitational and the TYR '85 Invite on Friday (Nov. 21).

Bulldog swimmers posted 12 season-best times and seven lifetime-bests across the finals competition, as the team sits in sixth with 238 points. The team of Gianna Riffel, Gracie Hunt, Andie Quisumbing and Anna Marcotti posted a time of 1:35.16 in the 200 free relay with Quisumbing swimming a lifetime-best 23.2 split and Marcotti posting a season-best 23.23 split. Amelia Presley, Danai Gkogkosi, Miriam Wheatley and Taylor Smith combined for a time of 1:38.55 with Wheatley (24.26) posting a lifetime-best split while Gkogkosi (24.32) and Smith (23.87) each registered season-best splits. Anna Kate Halligan posted a lifetime-best time of 5:00.18 in the 500 free, while Rose Sciaudone recorded a season-best mark of 5:08.42 in the event. Beatrice Cocconcelli finished seventh in the 200 IM in a season-best time of 2:04.68, while Alessia Cunegatti finished 10th in a season-best 2:04.35. Halligan swam the event in 2:09.04, while Gracelyn Cox posted a time of 2:09.98. Quisumbing posted a lifetime-best time of 23.51 in the 50 free, while Marcotti earned a season-best time of 23.74 and Hunt swam the event in 24.49. The quartet of Cocconcelli (57.63), Cox (1:04.46), Smith (55.60) and Marcotti (51.29) swam the 400 medley relay in 3:48.98 with Coconcelli posting a lifetime-best split and the three others each posting season-best splits. The team of Presley (59.41), Wheatley (1:04.21), Cunegatti (57.92) and Hunt (53.52) finished the event in 3:55.06 with Wheatley and Cunegatti registering lifetime-best splits and Presley and Hunt each posting season-best splits. "It's very exciting to be able to return to Charlotte for Fall Frenzy!" said Quisumbing. "The team has put so much effort into our practices this semester. It's nice to see how much it's been able to pay off so far. As well as how much our team is able to support, cheer and hype each other up. I know I really appreciated it after my lifetime-best 50 freestyle. I'm excited to see what rewards are in store for us for the rest of the weekend!"

In the consolation finals of 1M diving, Leigha Travis turned in a score of 215.00. while Eleanor Pichetto earned a mark of 212.45.

"It was a great showing for our divers tonight! Said diving coach Bailey Betzer. "I'm excited to see them in the finals. They have the 3M tomorrow, so we just have to carry the momentum forward for that! I know they will do great!"

Nine swimmers qualified for the finals on the day, as Asheville registered one lifetime-best time and 19 season-best times. Halligan registered a lifetime-best 5:04.15 to qualify for the B final in the 500 free, while Sciaudone earned a spot in the D final with a season-best time of 5:09.34. Kathryn Walters swam a season-best 5:15.88 in the event, while Celine Petruschke also notched a season-best in the event in 5:17.21. Cocconcelli swam a season-best 2:05.41 in the 200 IM to qualify for the A final, while Cunegatti finished in a season-best 2:05.67 to earn a spot in the B final. Cox (2:08.14) and Halligan (2:08.50) both swam season-best times in the event to qualify for the D final. Sciaudone (2:09.54) and Tess Peny (2:13.10) also swam season-best times in the event. Quisumbing (24.02) and Marcotti (24.05) each swam season-best times in the 50 free to qualify for the C final, while Hunt swam a season-best 24.18 to earn a spot in the D final. Riffel (24.28), Presley (25.15), Cox (25.21), Savanna Bush (25.89), Madden Weir (26.13) and Ava Kilpatrick (27.18) each swam a season-best time in the event. Wheatley also recorded a lifetime-best 24.96 in the event.

On the diving board, Pichetto and Travis each punched their ticket to the B finals in the one-meter event with Pichetto turning in a score of 208.45 and Travis posting a score of 193.40.

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 22) for their respective events. Swimming prelims begin at 9:30 a.m. from Charlotte, with video and tickets available at www.uncabulldogs.com. Diving prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. from Lynchburg, Va.
