Bulldogs Sweep Radford at Home

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Behind their best offensive outing in Big South action, the UNC Asheville volleyball team recorded a straight-set sweep (25–16, 25–22, 25–21) over Radford inside the Justice Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs improved to 7–13 overall and 4–3 in Big South play, while the Highlanders fell to 8–13 and 4–3 in conference action.
Addie Brookbank paced the Bulldogs with a match-high 13 kills while adding four service aces and two digs for a team-leading 17.5 points. She also recorded a .360 attack percentage. Albertine van der Goot hit an impressive .533 with nine kills and three block assists, and Lydia Pate followed with five kills, five digs, three block assists, and a .364 attack percentage.
Setters Payton Rolfsen and Selina Koc directed the offense with 15 and 17 assists, respectively. Rolfsen also contributed two aces and had the game-winning "setter sneak attack". Michelle Thao led the back row with 16 digs and a service ace, and Kylie Cackovic chipped in seven kills and four digs.
As a team, UNC Asheville hit .255 with 41 kills and nine service aces, while holding Radford to a .130 hitting percentage. The Bulldogs tallied 35 digs and four total blocks in the win.
Set One
Tied at 11, a kill from Cackovic sparked a 4-0 run for Asheville that pushed the Bulldogs to a set-opening 25-16 statement win. Asheville closed the set on a 5-1 run with Asheville's five final points all being kills. Van der Goot recorded three of Asheville's final kills, with her final kill being the set winner.

Set Two
Asheville opened the set on a 4-0 run, sparked by a kill from Pate and back-to-back aces from Brookbank. Radford battled back and took the lead (6-5), which would go on to set the tone for the set as there was a total of six ties and four lead changes in the second frame. Tied at 13, the Highlanders went on a 7-2 run to jump ahead 20-16. The Bulldogs responded, however, with a 7-2 run of their own to retake the lead 23-22. Brookbank sparked the run with a kill, and van der Goot followed with a kill of her own. Rolfsen recorded an ac,e and Ana Djurovic recorded a kill to put Asheville down by one (21-20). A Radford kill gave the Highlanders a two-point lead, before Asheville closed the set out on a five-point run to claim the set 25–22. Back-to-back attack errors tied the score at 22, and Asheville closed the set with two service aces from Brookbank and a kill from Cackovic.

Set Three
In the final frame, the Bulldogs raced out to an early 6–1 advantage and never trailed, extending their lead at one point by 12 (23-11). Radford tried to make things interesting late in the set, as the Bulldogs were at match point, the Highlanders went on an 8-0 run to cut Asheville's lead from 11 to three. Rolfsen was able to end Radford's threat with the game-winning kill.

UNC Asheville returns to action next weekend (Oct. 24-25) with a two-match road trip. The team will begin on Friday at Presbyterian (6 PM) and travel to Charleston Southern on Saturday (6 PM).
