Bulldogs Sweep Seton Hall, Improve to 5-1 for Best Start Since 1995

09.05.2026 | Women's Volleyball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team earned its second consecutive sweep at the Blue Ridge Volleyball Classic, hosted by the Harrah's Cherokee Center – Asheville, defeating Seton Hall in straight sets Saturday afternoon.

With Saturday's sweep, Asheville moves to 5-1 on the season, marking the program's best start since 1995, when the Bulldogs opened the year 8-0.

As a team, Asheville finished with 43 kills on 90 attempts while committing 14 errors for a .322 attack percentage, the Bulldogs' best single-match mark of the season. Asheville also recorded 41 digs compared to Seton Hall's 29 and totaled 39 assists to the Pirates' 19.

Asheville kept Seton Hall's offense in check, holding the Pirates to a .100 attack percentage and just 22 kills.

Sarah Wadsworth and Addie Brookbank led Asheville offensively with 16 and 15 kills, respectively. Both were efficient at the net, with Wadsworth hitting .444 and Brookbank finishing at .429. Wadsworth also matched her career high with four service aces, while Elise Jensen set a career high with four aces of her own to go along with a team-high 21 assists. Defensively, Izzy Perkins led the Bulldogs with 15 digs.

The match featured 17 ties and four lead changes, but in each set, the Bulldogs pulled away around the midway point to take control.

In the opening set, the teams were tied at 14 before a kill from Wadsworth gave Asheville the lead. Out of the media timeout, the Bulldogs extended their advantage to 19-14, with an ace from Perkins helping fuel the run. Asheville maintained control from there to take a 1-0 match lead.

The second set followed a similar pattern, as the teams were tied at 16 before a Wadsworth kill sparked a 6-0 Asheville run. The Pirates were unable to overcome the deficit, allowing the Bulldogs to take a 2-0 advantage in the match.

In the final frame, the teams were locked at 11 when Wadsworth once again provided the spark for Asheville. Her kill ignited a 7-1 Bulldog run, and Asheville carried the momentum through the remainder of the set to complete the straight-set sweep.

The Bulldogs will close out their weekend in Downtown Asheville on Sunday, facing Jacksonville State at 11 a.m.
