Men’s Basketball Adds Transfer Guard Justin Wright

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's basketball has signed Loyola Marymount University transfer guard Justin Wright, Head Coach Mike Morrell announced.
"We are excited to welcome Justin to our program," Morrell said. We have competed against him in the past, and we are glad he is on our team now. He possesses a great ability to score and is an extremely competitive player. Justin is another native of North Carolina who will suit up for Asheville!"
The Greenville, N.C., native transferred to LMU after three seasons at North Carolina Central. In 29 games played, Wright averaged 11.1 points per game, 1.9 assists per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, and a .490 shooting percentage.
At NC Central, Wright earned First Team All-MEAC honors his sophomore year (2021-22), becoming the youngest Eagle to be named First Team All-MEAC. He earned Second Team All-MEAC honors his junior year (2022-23). While at NC Central, Wright averaged 12.6 ppg, 1.9 apg, 4.2 rpg, a .474 shooting percentage, and 85 steals over three seasons.
In high school, Wright helped lead Farmville Central to a 2019 NCHSAA 2A State Championship. The squad won 42 consecutive games leading up to the championship. Wright was named MVP of the state championship game with 22 points, eight assists, and six rebounds. That same year, the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association named Wright first-team all-state and the District 3 player of the year.
