ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Aidan Rubio and Kameron Taylor have signed their national letters of intent to play for the UNC Asheville men's basketball team.
"We are excited to welcome Aidan and Kam to our program," said Head Coach Mike Morrell. "Both individuals come from different backgrounds, and the Asheville community will love getting to know them and watching them this upcoming season."
Rubio joins Asheville after spending the 2023-24 season at Central Michigan. The 6-6 guard/forward averaged 6.6 points per game, shooting 40% from 3-point range, 2.2 rebounds per game, and recorded 18 blocks in 24 games played last season. Rubio is a native of Flint, Mich.
Before playing at Central Michigan, Rubio played at Macomb Community College in 2022-23 and was selected as a JUCO All-American as Rubio led Macomb C.C. to a national runner-up finish in the NJCAA title game.
"Aidan Rubio is a terrific addition to our team," said Morrell, "He fits our style of play extremely well and brings great experience from Central Michigan, where they won over 20 games this past season. We are excited to get Aidan to campus this summer!"
Taylor joins Asheville from Charlotte, N.C., and is a 6-7 guard/forward from Carmel Christian. In 2023-24, Taylor averaged 24.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.
Taylor was named MVP of the North Carolina Private School All-Star game, is a 4A All-State Selection, and was named to the All-Observer First Team. Taylor transferred to Carmel Christian after two years at Olympic High School, where current Bulldog Josh Banks attended.
"We are thrilled to welcome Kam to our program," said Morrell, "He possesses great size and athleticism for his position. Bulldog fans are going to enjoy watching his growth as a player inside Kimmel Arena!"
