CHAMPIONS! Asheville Women's Tennis Wins Big South Conference Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - For the first time since 1989, UNC Asheville Women's Tennis is crowned Big South Conference champions after a 4-3 victory over Charleston Southern on Monday (Apr. 22).
Asheville captured the doubles point with two wins in doubles play, before winning three singles matches to clinch the title.
After falling behind in doubles play with a Charleston Southern victory at No. 3, Linge Steenkamp and Ari Siegel tied things up with a 6-3 win over Noa Boyd and Amilia Jusufbegovic at No. 1. Rosie Dickson and Angelina Joy Hug clinched the doubles point at No. 2 with a 7-6 (7-5) win over Jessica Braun and Khanna Singh. After a Charleston Southern win at No. 3 singles, Dickson put the Bulldogs ahead with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Brenda Yoris at No. 5. Steenkamp made it 3-1 Asheville with a 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 win at No. 1, before Charleston Southern rallied with wins at No. 4 and No. 2. Valeria Centeno clinched the championship with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win at No. 6 to bring home the title for Asheville.
