Baseball Drops Midweek Contest to East Tennessee State

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Baseball dropped its midweek contest to East Tennessee State on Tuesday (Apr. 2) at Greenwood Field by a score of 5-2.
The Bulldogs started the scoring in the first inning, when Ty Kaufman led the inning off lacing his first triple of the season down the right field line before coming home on a balk. ETSU would go on to build a 5-1 lead through the next seven innings, holding Asheville scoreless until the ninth. Ben Hemphill led off the inning with a double down the left field line, his eighth of the season. A groundout to the right side by Canon Pierce moved Hemphill to third, before he would come home on Kohl Abrams's third sacrifice fly of the season to bring the game to its final score.
Kaufman and Robbie Burnett each had three hits in the game to lead Asheville, while Cameron Johnson, Hemphill and Owen Michelson each had one hit in the game with Michelson's infield single being the first hit of his Asheville career. Kaufman and Hemphill each scored a run in the game, while Abrams drove in one run in the game. Bryce Fisher took the loss in the contest, allowing two runs on four hits through 2.2 innings. Isaac Gonzales fired 1.1 scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit while notching one strikeout followed by 1.2 innings from Nic Melton.
