Women's Tennis Readies for Big South Conference Championships

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Tennis readies for the 2024 Big South Conference Championships after winning their second consecutive Regular Season Championship, entering the tournament as the top seed.

About No. 1 Asheville - Asheville enters tournament play as the Big South Conference Regular Season Champion and the top seed. The Bulldogs enter the tournament at 14-3 overall and 5-0 in league play, with a combined 71-30 record in singles play including a mark of 22-8 in conference and a combined 34-11 doubles record including a 10-2 mark in conference. Alexis Nyborg leads the Dogs with 14 wins in singles play, while Linge Steenkamp has 13 and Angelina Joy Hug has 11. Louise Booker posted nine wins in singles play, while Valeria Centeno has eight and Rosie Dickson and Avery Sager each have seven. Ari Siegel also posted two wins in singles play on the season. Steenkamp and Siegel posted a team-best 11 wins in doubles play, while Hug and Dickson posted 10 wins and Sager and Booker also added five. Hug and Booker teamed up for four wins on the year, while Sager and Centeno also had three and Booker and Centeno had one.

About No. 2 Charleston Southern - Charleston Southern enters tournament play at 11-6 overall and 4-1 in league play, falling to Asheville 4-3 on Mar. 24. Charleston Southern has posted a combined 60-31 singles record on the season along with a 23-7 record in conference to go along with a 26-22 record in doubles play with a 10-4 mark in conference. Noa Boyd, Jessica Braun and Marina Skegro each have 10 wins on the season in singles play, while Amila Jusufbegovic also has nine wins and Khyanna Singh has seven. Brenda Yoris has six wins, while Kassandra Di Staulo has five and Anastasia Astakhova has three. Boyd and Jusufbegovic lead the way with eight wins in doubles play, while Braun and Boyd and DuStaulo and Skegro have five wins in doubles play. Three other doubles pairs each have two wins, while another two each have one on the year.   

About No. 3 Gardner-Webb - Gardner-Webb enters tournament play at 6-10 overall and 3-2 in conference play, falling to Asheville 6-1 on Mar. 7. Gardner-Webb posts a 45-48 record in singles play along with a 16-14 mark in conference, while also having a 20-27 record in doubles play with a 6-8 mark in conference. Emilia Roslund leads the way with nine wins on the year, while Alizee Pulin also has eighth wins and Milica Prokic and Courtney Fyvie each have seven wins. Katie Watts and Emma Shasteen each have five wins, while four others each have one win on the season. The tandem of Poulin and Fyvie posted six wins in doubles play, while Roslund and Shasteen and Watts and Prokic each had five wins. Three other doubles pairs each had one win on the season. Batth and Smolder lead the way in doubles play with four wins, while Abrams and Emily Brandow have three wins and Murphy and Stephens also have two. Four other doubles tandems each have one win on the season.  

About No. 4 Radford - Radford enters tournament play at 4-16 overall and 1-4 in the Big South Conference, falling to Asheville 4-3 back on Apr. 6. The Highlanders have a combined 33-79 record in singles play including a mark of 10-20 in conference, while owning a mark of 13-40 in doubles play including going 5-10 in conference. Emily Brandow, Michaela Stephens and Julia Abrams each have six wins on the season, while Lexi Smolder has five and Rachel Ekanem and Brooke Murphy each have four wins. Ameek Batth and Emily Brandow also each have one win in singles play.
