Bulldogs Grab 11 Podium Finishes to Round Out Montreat Open

MONTREAT, N.C. - The UNC Asheville track and field team returned to Pulliam Stadium on the campus of Montreat College on Saturday for the final day of the Montreat Open. Overall, the Bulldogs amassed 18 top-five finishes and 12 podium finishes over the course of the 2-day meet.Â
Zac Weas highlighted day two for Asheville with two individual event victories and was part of a relay victory. Weas dominated the men's 110m hurdles with his winning time of 14.75 and the 400m hurdles, where he crossed the line in 55.16. Weas has the fifth-fastest time in program history for the 400m hurdles. Adam Graham joined him in both events, who locked 14th place in the 110m hurdles (17.32) and fourth place in the 400m hurdles (58.08).Â
Jalen Anderson ran for gold in the 200m, cruising to a first-place finish at 21.26. Anderson also secured a second-place finish in the 100m with a time of 10.63. In the 100m, Anderson was joined by Isaac Wright (23rd, 11.25m), and in the 200m, Anderson was joined by DaMarr Harvey, who earned a third-place finish at 21.52, Braelin June (15th, 22.56) and Christopher Owens (28th, 23.29). Harvey's finish puts him at No. 3 on Asheville's All-Time best list for the 200m. Anderson holds the record at 20.87, which he set back in 2022.Â
Weas, Anderson, June, and Harvey won the men's 4x100m relay in a time of 41.23. Their finish is the third-fastest time in program history. The women's 4x100 team of Elyse Myles, Francesca Cergol, Murielle Jeanite, and Chaniya Owens finished in third at 49.29.Â
The 4x400 men's relay team of Christopher Owens, Isaac Wright, Brandon Kalasnik, and Jaheem O'Hara finished second with a time of 3:24.50.Â
Brianna Moore and Mallory Haney grabbed second-place finishes, with Moore in the javelin throw and Haney in the triple jump. Moore threw a distance of 39.04m, and Haney jumped 11.78m. Moore was joined in the javelin by Christina Jones (fourth, 34.54m), Lee Kania (10th, 28.27m), and Renae Younce (22nd, 23.29m). Haney was joined by Chaniya Owens, who jumped to fifth place with 10.83m. On the men's side of the javelin, Adam Graham finished 24th at 37.02m.Â
Haney finished third in the women's 200m with a time of 25.28. She was joined by Elyse Myles (eighth, 26.13), Brianna Moore (10th, 26.33), and Chaniya Owens (12th, 26.38). Â
Alex Haines grabbed a bronze finish in the 800m as he finished in 1:55.08. Haines was followed by Brock Newsome (ninth, 1:57.24), Jaheem O'Hara (11th, 1:57.34), Brandon Kalasnik (20th, 1:59.47), Preston Core (27th, 2:00.48), Tom Germann (30th, 2:01.08), Tyler Niloff (32nd, 2:01.55), Isaac Wright (34th, 2:01.77), John Ramirez (41st, 2:03.38) and Lance Surles (44th, 2:03.95). In the women's 800m event, Amanda Orban finished in seventh (2:23.17), Emily Leo finished in 13th (2:25.25), and Maddie Hamuka finished in 36th (2:37.23).Â
For the women, the Bulldogs were led in the 400m hurdles by Lee Kania, who secured a fourth-place finish with her time of 1:13.05. Also with a top-ten finish was fellow freshman Murielle Jeanite, who took eighth in 1:20.37. In the 100m hurdles, Mallory Haney finished fifth (15.23), Maya Dulaney finished ninth (15.99), and Kania finished 14th (16.88). Â
The Bulldogs put on a solid show in the 400m, with Brianna Moore claiming fourth place (59.21), Francesca Cergol taking eighth (1:00.33), and Elyse Myles taking ninth (1:00.82). For the men, Christopher Owens finished 12th (50.08), DaMarr Harvey finished 14th (50.24), and Braelin June finished 22nd (51.81). Â
Gabriel Matthews finished sixth in the men's triple jump at 13.26m. Daphne Bogert cleared 3.04 meters to finish sixth in the women's pole vault.Â
In the women's hammer throw, Madison Hannah led Asheville with a 15th-place finish at 39.03m. She was followed by Jaelyn Arnold (18th, 37.87m) and Raina Jackson (28th, 30.79m).Â
The Bulldogs will be back in action April 5-6 for the Tennessee Invite in Knoxville, Tenn.
