School Record from Richardson, Third Place Finishes from Moore and Harvey Highlight Day One of the Tennessee Invite

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The UNC Asheville Bulldogs traveled to Knoxville for the Tennessee Invite this Friday. A total of 23 Bulldogs competed at the LaPorte Stadium, with eight personal bests recorded as Asheville hit the midpoint of their 2024 regular season. 
 
The weekend of racing opened with the women's 1500-meter run, where freshman Isabel Richardson set a new school record of 4:32.21 (sixth overall) to open her outdoor season. Richardson was followed by Emma Kennett who ran a time of 4:56.58 to finish in 33rd.
 
On the men's side of the event, Alex Haines led the Bulldogs to lock in a personal best of 3:52.26 (sixth). Brock Newsome crossed the line next in a season's best of 3:59.11 (19th). He was followed by Lance Surles, who finished 25th in 4:05.06 for a personal best.
 
Mallory Haney took 27th spot in the women's 200-meter dash with her time of 25.42. Securing the same time were fellow Bulldogs Elyse Myles and Chaniya Owens with 26.32 (48th).
 
For the men, DaMarr Harvey clinched a third place finish with a time of 21.45, the second-fastest mark in program history. Harvey was closely followed by Jalen Anderson who finished fourthth in 21.46. With a personal best in the event, Braelin June took 24th-place with 22.48.
 
In the hurdle events, Lee Kania ran a personal best of 1:11.38 to finish 22nd in the women's 400-meter hurdle event. Murielle Jeanite ran a time of 1:15.26 to finish 26th in the event. For the men, Zac weas secured fourth place with a mark of 56.05 and Adam Graham took 10th with a time of 58:44.
 
In the final event of the evening, four Bulldogs competed in the 5000-meter run. The event was highlighted by a personal best from Sophie Lundin (17:57, 17th). Lundin was joined by Madeline Wittschen (18:14, 23rd) for a season-best time in the event and Ella Moore (18:59, 30th) who notched a personal best. Yates Hockaday represented Asheville with his season's best time of 15:19 (17th) in the men's event.
 
Over at the infield, five Bulldogs competed across four field events. The day started with the women's Hammer Throw, which was led by a personal best from Jaelyn Arnold (38.60m). Arnold was followed by Madison Hannah who threw 32.70 meters to finish 21st.
 
Brianna Moore claimed Asheville's second third place finish of the day in the women's ong jump with her personal best of 5.87m, the second-best mark in program history. In the same event, Mallory Haney jumped 4.57m to finish 32nd.
 
In the women's discus, Madison Hannah threw a season-best distance of 37.31 meters to finish in 14th. She was followed by Christina Jones (21st - 33.42m) and Jaelyn Arnold (23rd- 30.36m). In the women's javelin, Moore secured another personal best with her distance of 40.89m to put her fourth overall. This was also the third-furthest distance thrown by a Bulldog in the women's program history. Moore was kept company by Jones who finished ninth with 31.10 meters.
 
The UNC Asheville Bulldogs will return to the Laporte Stadium tomorrow (Saturday, Apr. 6) for the final day of the 2024 Tennessee Invite. For full event results, click HERE.
