Asheville Closes out the Tennessee Invite with Trio of Top Three Finishes

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The UNC Asheville Bulldogs returned to Knoxville for the final day of competition at the Tennessee Invite on Saturday (Apr. 6). 18 team members competed, with six personal bests claimed to wrap up a successful meet in Knoxville.
 
There were a trio of top-three finishes from Asheville. The highest finish of the day for a Bulldog was in the men's 3000-meter steeplechase, where Jan Málek took second place with a time of 9:12.82. He was joined by Jonas Roach, who finished 14th with 9:56.51.
 
Zac Weas cruised to the final of the men's 110-meter hurdles where he then finished in third with a season's best time of 14.43. Weas is yet to finish outside of the top three in the 110-meter hurdles this season, winning the event at both the 49er Classic and the Montreat Open.
 
The final podium spot for Asheville was seized by Raina Jackson in the women's shot put, where she threw a season-best distance of 13.83m. Coming in at 15th was Jaelyn Arnold, who secured a personal best of 12.41m.
 
Three personal bests were achieved across both the men's and women's sections of the 800-meter event. Alison Graf finished in eighth with her time of 2:12.74 to open her outdoor season. Her time puts her third in program history for the event. Following in Graf's footsteps was Zoe Bos, who also secured a personal best with 2:19.07 to finish 25th. Amanda Orban ran a season-best of 2:21.45 to finish in 35th place. For the men, the 800m was led by Brandon Kalasnik who ran a personal best of 1:56.98 to finish in 26th. He was followed by Jaheem O'Hara (1:58.11 - 31st) and Preston Core (1:59.77 - 35th).
 
Asheville was also competitive across the sprinting distances, with a fifth-place finish and personal best from DaMarr Harvey in the men's 100-meter dash (10.63). This time marks the second-fastest in program history. Harvey was joined by Isaac Wright who finished 22nd with a personal best of 11.15. For the women, Elyse Myles also finished strong with a personal best to put her 32nd (12.54). In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Mallory Haney ran 16.47 (27th) and Lee Kania ran 17.12 (29th).
 
There was a season-best for Isaac Wright in the men's 400-meter (24th, 50.52). He was followed by Christopher Owens in 27th with a time of 50.92.
 
Off the track the Bulldogs were strong in the women's triple jump, with Chaniya Owens taking 16th place with a personal best of 11.27 meters. In the women's high jump, Mallory Haney jumped a season-best of 1.55 meters to also finish in 16th. In the men's triple jump, Gabriel Matthews had a top-10 finish with his distance of 13.60 meters to put him eighth in the event.
 
The women's 4x400-meter relay finished in 10th with a season's best of 3:55.37. The team consisted of Francesca Cergol, Brianna Moore, Elyse Myles and Alison Graf.
 
The UNC Asheville track & field team will next compete on home turf for the Asheville Bulldog Invite this coming Saturday (Apr. 13). Video and live results for the event will be available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
