Baseball Drops Middle Game Against Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – The UNC Asheville baseball team lost the middle game of its series against Georgia with a 17-5 eight-inning run rule decision Saturday afternoon.
Asheville recorded eight hits from six different individuals, while Georgia recorded 16 hits, with every member of its starting lineup recording a hit.
Robbie Burnett and Michael Groves accounted for two hits each. Burnett accounted for Asheville's lone home run of the day, the 20th of his career. Groves recorded a double and scored following a double from freshman Coleman McGinnis.
Kohl Abrams, Corbin Lanowitz and Cameron Johnson each chipped in with a hit. The Bulldogs had five RBIs, with Burnett, McGinnis, Dylan Bacot, Lanowitz and Ty Kaufman each accounting for one.
Six Bulldogs took the mound, with Justin Honeycutt getting the start and suffering the loss. Colby Guy, Shea Walker, Sam Thompson, Bryce Fisher and Cole Bates all came on in relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Georgia put up three runs in the bottom of the opening frame, then added a run in the second and third innings to take a 5-0 lead. Kaufman scored Lanowitz on a sacrifice fly to right field in the top of the fourth to get Asheville on the board, but Georgia followed in the bottom of the inning with four runs.
Burnett's solo homer came in the top of the fifth, and McGinnis' RBI double came in the sixth. The Georgia Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the sixth with a run, making the score 10-3.
The Asheville Bulldogs posted two runs in the top of the seventh, following a groundout RBI from Bacot to score Abrams and an outfield single from Lanowitz to drive in Burnett. Georgia would not allow Asheville to score any more runs, as UGA scored four runs in the bottom of the frame and three runs in the eighth, following a 3-run homer, putting the 10-run run rule into effect.

Asheville and Georgia will face each other in the series finale on Sunday, Feb. 18, at 1 p.m.
