Bulldogs Notch Third Straight Win, Third Straight Shutout with Victory over Wofford

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville women's soccer secured its third straight win and its third consecutive shutout with a 1-0 victory over Wofford on Thursday (Aug. 31) at Greenwood Field, marking the first 3-1 start for the program since 2017.
The teams played a scoreless first half that did yield chances for both teams. Wofford bested Asheville 7-6 in shots, putting four on target to Asheville's three. Both goalkeepers were able to keep a clean sheet through 45 minutes as well.
The Bulldogs struck 19 minutes into the second half, when Kaiya Boyd picked off a pass and fed it back into the Wofford area to a wide-open Taylor Gardner. Gardner turned and made a move before firing it low left past Wofford keeper Caroline Doss. Asheville would defend its lead and stand strong defensively throughout the remainder of the contest, while goalkeeper Gracie Murray would stand tall between the pipes.
Gardner's goal was the first of the season, off of Boyd's first helper of the campaign and her Asheville career. In total, Asheville out-shot Wofford 13-12, led by three each from Boyd and
Anna Doane. Gardner had two off the bench, while Jasmine Barry, Azalea Mihailovich, Ava Bjorkman-Tracy, Nao Kawasaki and Ashley Macfarlane each had one. Murray's seven saves marked a new career high in her second consecutive shutout and the third clean sheet of her career.
The Bulldogs (3-1-0) are back on the pitch on Sunday (Sept. 3) to host Furman. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com. Â
