05.06.2023 | Baseball
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville baseball team fell to No. 13 Campbell by a score of 10-2 on Saturday afternoon at Greenwood Field. The Bulldogs, who honored their seven seniors prior to the game, drop to 21-22 on the season and 7-13 in Big South play.
Asheville racked up six hits against the Camels on Saturday. Corbin Lanowitz drove in a run with a double and Cameron Johnson also picked up a double. Ty Kaufman reached base three times with a single and a pair of walks. Kohl Abrams, Dylan Bacot, and Tony Castonguay also picked up hits for Asheville.
On the mound, the Bulldogs used three pitchers on Saturday. Ryan Douglas got the start and pitched the first three innings. Douglas, who allowed five runs on five hits, was relieved by Justin Honeycutt who also allowed five runs to the Camels. Chris Sabo closed out Saturday's tilt with two shutout innings out of the Bulldog bullpen.
Campbell continued its hot-hitting from Friday's series opener in game two. The Camels scored one run in the first, added four in the third and one more in the fourth to build a 6-0 lead on the Bulldogs. Campbell posted a pair of two-run frames in the seventh and eighth to add to its lead.
Asheville, meanwhile, had runners reach base in most of the early innings but did not break through until the seventh when Johnson scored on a wild pitch. An RBI double from Lanowitz in the eighth scored the second run for the Bulldogs. Unfortunately, the sizable lead that Campbell built early on stood up as it clinched the series victory over the Bulldogs, 10-2.
To try and beat the rain, Sunday's series finale will now begin at 11 a.m. instead of the original start time of 1 p.m. The game will still be streamed on ESPN+.
