Men’s Basketball Adds VCU Transfer Josh Banks

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Head Men's Basketball Coach Mike Morrell announced the signing of Josh Banks on Thursday. Banks comes to Asheville after spending the last three seasons at VCU.
 
"We are thrilled to welcome Josh to our program," said Morrell. "He is coming from VCU where they won the Atlantic 10 Conference and played in the NCAA tournament this past season. Josh's style of play fits who we are on the floor extremely well. Our Bulldog fans will love getting to know him as a player and person." 
 
Banks, a native of Charlotte, N.C., appeared in 77 games during his time at VCU. He scored 190 points, grabbed 57 rebounds, and added 17 assists to go with 12 steals. His best outing in 2022-23 came vs. Howard where he scored 11 points to go with five rebounds. Furthermore, he scored a season-high 10 points as a freshman in the 2021 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship against St. Bonaventure.
 
Prior to enrolling at VCU, Banks had a decorated career at Olympic High School in Charlotte. He was a First Team All-State selection in 2020 after averaging 24 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. A two-time SoMECK7 Conference Player of Year selection, Banks averaged over 20 points (20.6) with 5.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists as a junior. He also averaged 16.2 points and shot 47 percent from the field for Team United on the 2019 EYBL Circuit.
