Bulldogs Still in Second, Gold Tied for Fifth Individually After Day Two of the Golfweek Intercollegiate

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Golf still sits in second place with Madyson Gold in a tie for fifth after day two of the Golfweek Intercollegiate on Tuesday (Mar. 28).

The Bulldogs as a team turned in a round of 297 (+13), tying for the sixth-lowest team round in program history. Asheville's 587 (+19) through two days marks the second-lowest 36-hole total in program history. Gold turned in a 73 (+2) to put herself in a tie for fifth individually, with her 142 (E) tying for the lowest 36-hole total in program history. Gold sits just two shots off the individual lead headed to the final day. Phoebe Carles (77, +6), Kayla Benge (75, +3) and Ally Kerr (72, +1) all sit in a tie for 24th individually, while Hailey Pendleton turned in an 84 (+13) in the second round.

Gold shot par on the opening hole of the day, before making bogey on No. 2 and No. 3. She would birdie No. 4 and No. 5, before making par on No. 6. She rounded out the front nine with bogeys on No. 7 and No. 8, before shooting birdie on No. 9. Gold would start the back nine with a par on No. 10 and a bogey on No. 11, before shooting even par the rest of the way.

Kerr opened the second round with three straight pars on the first three holes, before making bogey on No. 4. She would register pars on the next three holes, before making birdie on No. 8 and par on No. 9 to make the turn to the back. Kerr registered pars on No. 10 and No. 11, before shooting bogey on No. 12. She would record pars on the next three holes, before making birdie on No. 16, par on No. 17 and concluding the round with a bogey on No. 18.

Benge began her round with a bogey on No. 1, followed by three straight pars. After a bogey on No. 5, she would card back-to-back pars before finishing the front with a bogey on No. 8 and a par on No. 9. She began the back nine with a birdie on No. 10, before making par on No. 11 and a bogey on No. 12. She would make par on No. 13, bogey on No. 14 and a par on No. 15, before rounding things out with a bogey on No. 16, a par on No. 17 and a birdie on No. 18.

Carles began her round with a bogey on No. 1, before making pars on the next three holes. She would par No. 6, bogey No. 7 and par the last two holes before making the turn. She would bogey No. 10 and par No. 11 before making bogey on No. 12 and shooting par on the next three holes. Carles finished her round with a bogey on No. 16 and pars on No. 17 and No. 18.

"Weather conditions were ideal for scoring and we just didn't get it done," said head coach Ross Cash. "We are still in second place in a great field which is good but we still haven't played our best golf. Looking forward to seeing the numbers we put up tomorrow."

The Bulldogs return to the course for the final day of the tournament tomorrow (Wednesday, Mar. 29), with double tees beginning at 7:45 a.m. Live results will also be available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
