Bulldogs Roll Past Longwood, 13-4, for Second Straight Big South Win
03.25.2023 | Baseball
For the third straight game, the Bulldogs totaled 10 or more hits. Asheville's hit total on Saturday finished up at 16, which was the second most by the team this spring. Dylan Bacot went 4-for-5 with three RBI to go with three runs scored. Michael Groves also drove in three runs on a 2-for-4 day at the plate. Tony Castonguay logged a season-high three hits on a perfect 3-for-3 performance. The tandem of Kohl Abrams (2-for-5) and Robbie Burnett (2-for-5) did a great job setting things up at the top of the order for Bacot, Groves, and the rest of the Bulldogs to drive them in.
Ryan Douglas, who started Saturday's game, picked up his fourth win of the season. Douglas tossed the first five innings where he scattered three hits and three walks. The lone run Douglas allowed was not earned and he struck out seven Longwood hitters in the outing.
Saturday's contest began with back-to-back scoreless frames. Longwood scratched across the game's first run in the top of the third to take the first lead. Asheville would answer in the fourth inning as Groves picked up an RBI double to score Bacot, while Castonguay drove in Groves with a single to make the score 2-1 Bulldogs.

Asheville's offense was not done there. A three-run fifth inning grew Asheville's lead to four, 5-1. The Bulldogs would blow the game open in the sixth with six runs on three hits to make the score 11-2 Asheville. The Bulldogs tacked on single runs in the seventh and eighth, while Longwood scored a pair of runs in the eighth on a two-run home run. However, the big cushion Asheville built in the middle innings stood up as Asheville clinched the series win over Longwood, 13-4.
Asheville and Longwood will wrap up their three-game series on Sunday afternoon. The first pitch for the series finale is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
