Bulldogs drop game two to Eastern Kentucky on Saturday

Asheville totaled seven hits in Saturday's contest. Corbin Lanowitz and Kohl Abrams both notched two-hit days to lead the way for Asheville's offense. Ty Kaufman scored a run, drove in another, and picked up a single on Saturday as well.
The Bulldogs used seven different pitchers on Saturday. Ryan Douglas started the game and worked the first 3.2 innings, allowed three runs on four hits to go with four strikeouts. Freshman Brendan Pouliot made his first collegiate appearance and worked a scoreless eighth inning with a strikeout.
Asheville and Eastern Kentucky exchanged runs in the first inning. The Bulldogs, however, seemed to seize the momentum in the second inning. With one out, Michael Groves worked a walk and the duo of Drew Bristow and Abrams followed with singles to load the bases. A pair of passed balls and an RBI groundout from Kaufman chased three runs across the plate for Asheville as it opened a 4-1 lead.
EKU got back within a run with two runs off Douglas in the third to make the score 4-3 Asheville. The Colonels, however, did most of their damage against the Bulldog bullpen. Eastern Kentucky would score seven runs off Asheville's relievers and the Bulldogs did not have an answer back as EKU evened the series at a game apiece, 10-4.
The rubber match of the series will be on Sunday. First pitch for that contest is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
